CyberConnect2 and Sega offered more insight into how the Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles Story Mode will work. To be specific, the developer is bringing back the Storyboard mechanic. Once a chapter of an arc is done, you can visit nodes on a map. The background will show characters from the game. You’ll also see the path through the chapter. Things like Special Missions and Memory Fragments will both appear once someone unlocks one of these Storyboards.

This isn’t the first time CyberConnect2 implemented this kind of a mechanic in one of its fighting games. Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 is another that had Storyboards during its Story Mode. People went on to directly compare them in the replies. Here’s one of them offering a side-by-side.

It also is one of many features revealed for Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles ahead of launch. For example, the Butterfly Mansion will be home to minigames.
Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles will appear on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC on October 14, 2021 in Japan and on October 15, 2021 worldwide.
