Dragon Ball FighterZ, SoulCalibur, and Tekken World Tours’ 2020 Physical Tournaments Official Support Pulled

Current worldwide conditions have led to multiple major events being canceled. Now, erring on the side of caution, Bandai Namco has made a sweeping announcement regarding its fighting game tournaments. It has confirmed the Dragon Ball FighterZ, SoulCalibur, and Tekken World Tours’ physical events official support for 2020 would be canceled. Instead, the company will be exploring online options.

Bandai Namco noted that this only relates to its official support for physical events in its statement. It said that individual and private events could go as planned, but that it will not be a part.

Here is the full statement, which it shared on the Dragon Ball FighterZ, SoulCalibur, and Tekken World Tour sites.

Out of an abundance of care and caution for the health and safety of tournament participants and staff, Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. has made the difficult decision to cancel official support for all remaining physical tournament events in the 2020 season for the Tekken, SoulCalibur, and Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tours respectively. While Bandai Namco Entertainment’s official support of physical tournament events has been cancelled for the 2020 season, we are finalizing online competition event solutions for the remainder of the year and aim to have more news to share soon.

Please note that while Bandai Namco Entertainment’s official support for physical events has been cancelled for the 2020 World Tour, individual tournament organizers may still choose to continue holding physical events. We urge competitors and fans to seek tournament details through event websites and to use their best judgment regarding their personal on-site participation.

We want to thank our competitors and fans for their understanding in this matter and we look forward to bringing back physical events when conditions permit us to do so.

Stay safe, stay healthy, stay connected.

Other recently canceled events include Arc World Tour 2020 and BlizzCon 2020

Dragon Ball FighterZ is available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. SoulCalibur VI is available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Tekken 7 is available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
