Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Lite

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Lite to Close, Relaunch in April

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 will temporarily lose its free-to-play edition on PS4. According to an announcement on Bandai Namco Entertainment’s page, it will “terminate” Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Lite on the PS4 on March 23, 2022. Then, around the beginning of April 2022, a new version of the title will reappear, allowing players to download and play as normal. Players can migrate save data from the previous version of the game to the new one. Content in the two versions is identical.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 originally launched in 2016 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Bandai Namco ported the game to Nintendo Switch in 2017 and Google Stadia in 2019. Xenoverse 2 Lite is a free-to-play version of the game available on PS4 and Xbox One that came out in 2019. Bandai Namco released a Switch version of Lite, but later removed it.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Lite functions as a trial or demo mode of sorts, as it carries significant limitations on content and progression. Players who start in the Lite version can retain their progression and characters if they choose to upgrade to the full version of the game.

The Lite edition includes the following content:

  • The first five story campaign episodes, covering up to the Galactic Emperor arc, as well as the Parallel Quests available up to that point
  • Online battles
  • The Hero Colosseum (a tabletop minatures battle-style minigame)
  • Photo Mode
  • Lite versions of Raid Battles (multiplayer co-op fights against powerful NPC bosses)

The Lite edition also comes with restrictions on available skills, equipment and characters. For example, Lite players cannot create Saiyan or Frieza Race custom characters. They also can’t use race-specific transformations other than Kaioken and Potential Unleashed. Player levels are also capped at 50 (compared to 99 for paid players). Lite players cannot access the Guru House, and as such cannot increase their stats past the cap of 100. Lite players also cannot fly in the lobby area, making it difficult to reach certain NPCs.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Lite on the PS4 will go offline on March 23, 2022. It will return in early April 2022. The Xbox One edition of Lite is unaffected. The full version of the game on all platforms will function as normal.
