Expect the Super Mario Bros. Movie Teaser to Drop at NYCC 2022

You won’t have too long to wait to see and hear what Mario will sound like on the big screen. The New York Comic Con announced that the first teaser trailer for Nintendo and Illumination Studios’ new Super Mario Bros. movie will debut during the event. It’ll be the first time the general public will see the movie, which is scheduled to premiere in April 2023.

The Super Mario Bros. movie teaser premiere will take place on the first day of the 2022 New York Comic Con, at 16:00 ET (about 13:00 PT). The NYCC itself opens its doors on the same day at 10:00 ET, which gives attendees a few hours to roam the show floor and see other programming and attractions.

The Super Mario Bros. movie is an animated film, and being produced by Illumination Entertainment. Illumination also created films like Despicable Me and its Minions spin-off, Sing, The Secret Life of Pets, and adaptations of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax and The Grinch. It was first announced back in 2018. The first casting announcements surfaced during the September 2021 Nintendo Direct broadcast, where Mario Bros. creator Shigeru Miyamoto announced the first names attached to the film. Mario will be played by Parks & Recreationand Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt. Luigi will be played by It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Charlie Day. Princess Peach will be played by The Queen’s Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy. Bowser will be played by School of Rock and Brutal Legend star Jack Black. Charles Martinet, who has voiced Mario since 1992, also has an unspecified role in the movie.

The Super Mario Bros. movie will premiere on April 7, 2023. The teaser trailer drops at the New York Comic Con on October 6, 2022.
