Murder at the Kogetsukan

Fate/Grand Order Solves the Murder at the Kogetsukan on May 19, 2020

Many of Fate/Grand Order‘s masters (including yours truly) might still be climbing the point ladders of the Guda Guda Meiji Restoration event, but soon there’ll be time to rest with a relaxing murder mystery. That’s because Aniplex has announced the next event, Murder at the Kogetsukan, will open on May 19, 2020. Players will hang out with none other than the world’s greatest consulting detective, Sherlock Holmes, as they solve a murder at the luxurious Kogetsukan Hotel.

Unlike the typically grind-heavy structure of most Fate/Grand Order events, Murder at the Kogetsukan is a low-impact affair. The active portion of the event will take place over just under a week, with a one of ten total story missions going live each day. Each mission will reveal new clues and evidence to help players in their investigation. After the eighth story mission goes live on May 23, 2020, players will be allowed to vote in a community-wide poll to guess who the true culprit is. The true culprit will be revealed in the final missions and, if the majority of the playerbase guessed correctly, all participating players will be awarded ten Saint Quartz in addition to the base rewards.

Players will also get to use that hard-earned Saint Quartz roll the gacha, as Murder at the Kogetsukan will also debut a new limited summoning banner. Heading it is Holmes himself, a 5-Star Ruler-class Servant.  Besides his exploits in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s novels and countless adaptations and spin-offs since, Sherlock Holmes has also become something of a fixture in Fate/Grand Order‘s narrative. His presence was hinted at back in the first half of FGO’s main story campaign, and he made his first appearance in the Camelot Singularity chapter. He only became playable as part of a limited summoning campaign at 2019’s Anniversary Celebration.

As a Ruler-class Servant, Holmes takes half damage from most of the regular Servant classes, only suffering disadvantage against Berserkers and Avengers. Holmes himself can dish out a good amount of damage on his own, but is most useful supporting his teammates in challenging content. His skills can lock away an enemy’s ultimate attack, and his Noble Phantasm “Elementary, My Dear” enables friendly units to pierce nearly all forms of enemy defense.

Fate/Grand Order‘s Murder at the Kogetsukan event kicks off on March 19, 2020 and will last until June 2, 2020. The game is available for download on Android and iOS devices.
