FFXIV Packet Loss and Network Issues Being Investigated

FFXIV packet loss and network issues are being reported by some after the April 12, 2022 launch of the 6.1 patch. Director and Producer Naoki Yoshida noted Square Enix is aware of the issue. However, he noted that since this could be a network routing issue, reports from affected players can help resolve the issue.

The announcement explained that packet loss in FFXIV can essentially happen when data gets lost in transit. Yoshida specifically noted, “In the past month, some of the internet service providers (ISP) in Japan have been reporting issues due to high network concentration or trouble related to construction.” He said that by telling people their traceroute results, ISP details, location, general time, and rate at which FFXIV network issues happen, Square Enix could then learn more and contact ISPs.

The rest of the details explained how to find traceroute information to help report FFXIV network issues. In Windows, you’d need to open Windows PowerShell, then enter “tracert [IP address of your data center]” and copy the results to send to Square Enix. On Macs, someone needs to go to Terminal in the Utilities folder in Applications. There, someone puts in “traceroute [IP address of your data center]” and copies the resulting data for Square Enix.

The IPs for the data centers was also shared. These are the same for both Windows and Macs.
