Horizon Forbidden West Aims for 2021, Minimal Loading Times

Today, Sony released a new video package, which finally revealed a Horizon Forbidden West release window. As stated by the game’s director Mathijs de Jonge, Guerilla Games plans to launch Horizon Forbidden West for the PlayStation 5 in 2021. But aside from that, more details were revealed for the game, including a technical boasting point, and more about what “Forbidden West” means geographically.

Jonge states that Horizon Forbidden West, with a bigger and more bio-diverse map than Horizon Zero Dawn, will have almost no loading screens. He states that starting the game drops you in right away, giving a lot of support to the SSD-centric theme of what Sony has been presenting the PlayStation 5 as.

Geographically, the “Forbidden West” is a whole new frontier of the Horizon world, which is more or less a post-post-apocalyptic version of Earth. Jonge described the space Horizon Forbidden West comprises as stretching from Utah, to the Pacific Ocean. This could potentially include rough approximations of Nevada, Arizona, or California in the United States, as well as land around that area. In the trailer, we see Alloy exploring a ton of different and colorful terrain, but it’s hard to attribute that to real-life parallels considering the fiction. Either way, that’s quite a roadtrip.

The Horizon Forbidden West release window is currently scheduled for the PlayStation 5 in 2021.

Lucas writes about video games a lot and is a former Siliconera editor. Sometimes he plays them. Every now and then he enjoys one. To get on his good side, say nice things about Dragon Quest and Musou. Never mention the Devil May Cry reboot in his presence. Backed Bloodstained on Kickstarter but all his opinions on it are correct regardless.
