How to Unlock Materia Fusion in Crisis Core FFVII Reunion

Materia is an integral part of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion and, similar to its function in Final Fantasy VII, players will be using this iconic Final Fantasy item to equip magic, boost stats, and even special attacks. While the Materia system in FFVII was fairly simple by comparison, Crisis Core FFVII Reunion‘s Materia system includes the Materia Fusion option. This means that players can fuse Materia to create more powerful ones in Crisis Core FFVII Reunion, which includes higher level spells and attacks.

Since this feature is so integral, Crisis Core FFVII Reunion doesn’t look Materia Fusion away from the player for too long. The only thing you need to do in order to unlock the feature is reach Chapter 3. You will know when you get there, as the game will provide you a brief tutorial on Materia Fusion and Zack will get a slight outfit change. For spoilers sake, I won’t be sharing what events take place up to Chapter 3. Just know that once the option is available, the game will absolutely let you know.

Why is Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion Materia Fusion Important?

However, you might be wondering why Crisis Core FFVII Reunion Materia fusion is more beneficial as opposed to getting it from sub-missions. Leveling up Materia to fuse them will unlock higher level spells faster. For example, leveling up your Fire and Cure Materia to 5-stars will allow you to unlock Fira. Keep in mind the dominant Materia will affect what Materia will result in the fusion. Combining Cure and Fire with Cure in the top spot will net you a Regen Materia. Additionally, this system will also allow you to effectively add stats to that specific Materia. For example, if you combine a two Thunder Materia with Magic+2, will grant you a Thunder Materia Magic+4.

Keep in mind that while this system may feel a bit overwhelming at first, it really boils down to basic math. Just keep in mind that when fusing Materia, the Materia with the higher level passive stat will get the boost. Meaning that the secondary stat will be eaten and not carried over if it isn’t the same stat.

Grades are also something to consider when fusing Materia. Fusing a high grade Materia with a low grade Materia will allow for the resulting Materia to keep its inherited high grade. So keep that in mind as well when picking and choosing Materia to fuse.

If you’re unsure, make sure to save before doing any major Materia fusion. That way, you can roll it back if you’re unhappy with any choice you’ve made.
