A collaboration between Level-5 and Comcept isn’t going as well as people might have hoped. The mobile Keiji Inafune game is entering its twilight years not even a year after it launched. On February 17, 2020, Dragon & Colonies will be shut down. As a reminder, it only just launched back in June 2019. (Thanks, 4Gamer!)
An explanation for Dragon & Colonies’ termination was provided on the official site. Essentially, the team ran into problems creating a continually satisfying experience for players, even after renovating the game. An apology was issued, paid currency is no longer being sold in the app, the February 17, 2020 server shutdown date was confirmed, and a refund program for people who bought crystals will eventually be announced.
This didn’t come out of nowhere. As mentioned a moment ago, a Dragon & Colonies renovation endeavor was announced back in August 2019. The goal was to renew the game and reopen in October 2019, adding more scenarios and social elements and using players’ feedback to make it more satisfying to play. It relaunched on October 24, 2019.
In Dragon & Colonies, every person has their own six-sided cube, and they are tasked with ensuring its faces are built up to help your characters and community grow. You have to constantly put effort in, as your colony is in direct competition with other people’s.
