Prior to the November 19, 2021 release date of the live-action Cowboy Bebop, Netflix did not show off its version of Ed. This is the first official reveal and interview with the actor behind the character. While the original anime and staff for Cowboy Bebop did not give Ed any particular pronouns, Perkins refers to Ed as she/her when discussing the character.

You can watch the interview (time-stamped to when Perkins appears) below.

Eden Perkins is a newcomer and Ed is their first acting role. In their interview, they expressed excitement at working with John Cho, as well as how much they loved Ed’s wig. As Ed only appears at the end of the first season, she will get more screen time in season two. However, it is currently unknown when or if the second season will air.

Cowboy Bebop is available now worldwide on Netflix. Netflix plans on adapting the equally retro anime classic Yu Yu Hakusho for release in December 2023.
