Nintendo Killed Another Animal Crossing Cloning Glitch

Another Animal Crossing cloning glitch has been eliminated. Nintendo has been fairly swift about removing exploits from Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and the Nintendo Switch installment has had another easy one removed. If you had been cloning 2×1-sized items, that’s over now. The May 21, 2020 1.2.1 patch put an end to that.

We went over this Animal Crossing: New Horizons duplication bug back when it was first discovered and even released a video showing exactly how it worked. (That video has since been removed from YouTube by a copyright claim.) If someone placed a 4×4 table in the center of a room, a 2×1 table beside it, and a 2×1 item on top of the table, then continually dragged and dropped the 2×1 table around the 4×4 one to force it to rotate, it would trigger an Animal Crossing cloning glitch. When someone left the room and reentered it, they’d find multiple copies of the 2×1 item on top of the table around the room. These could then be placed in storage and sold, shared, or used however someone would like.

While the Animal Crossing: New Horizons 1.2.1 patch notes don’t mention it, I have tested and confirmed that this 2×1 exploit is now gone. The official description only says this involves general updates and it “addressed issues to further ensure an enjoyable gaming experience.”

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available for the Nintendo Switch.
