Nintendo Says Bayonetta 3 Development is ‘Progressing Well’

While Bayonetta 3 didn’t appear at E3 2021, Nintendo representatives issued a statement regarding the game’s development after the fact. Nintendo of America Director of Product Marketing Bill Trinen and Senior Director of Localization Nate Bihldorff spoke about the game in a GameSpot interview. Namely, it confirmed the game does still exist and is “progressing well.”

Trinen specifically noted that the game’s development is coming along, though he didn’t confirm or deny actually playing the game. He said the following.

I will even go one further and say not only does it exist, but it’s progressing well. I think we have a habit of we like to show things whenever we’re ready to show them. And certainly, we like to show things when I think the developers are ready to show them. We didn’t have it here at E3, but stay tuned.

The game comes up at the 19:37 mark of the GameSpot interview below.

As Kotaku pointed out, Hideki Kamiya commented on Bayonetta 3 and both its status and existence after E3 2021. The same day as the June 15, 2021 Nintendo Direct, he tweeted about the game. He noted that comments questioning the status were “annoying,” according to Kotaku’s report.

Nintendo announced Bayonetta 3 at The Game Awards 2017. Since then, only vague updates ended up being offered. For example, in 2019 PlatinumGames’ Head Producer Atsushi Inaba said there would be a change in the design process. Kamiya also said its development is “progressing smoothly” and hadn’t “been canceled” in 2020. When 2021 began, Kamiya also said he hoped an update could be offered sometime in 2021.

Bayonetta 3 is in development for the Nintendo Switch.
