Nintendo Switch Annual Playing Users Count Surpassed 100 Million

Nintendo Switch has over 100 million annual playing users

Over 100 million users have been playing games on the Nintendo Switch on an annual basis. Nintendo announced the new milestone on the 12th page of its financial presentation for the first quarter of the 2023 fiscal year that ended in June 2022. The company revealed that there were 104 million users who played games on the console between July 2021 and June 2022.

Nintendo calculated the Switch’s annual playing users by counting the number of unique Nintendo Accounts that were connected online, consented to provide statistics, and ran at least one game software. It did not include accounts that were only used to access the Nintendo eShop.

This announcement goes in tandem with the ever-increasing lifetime sales amount of the Nintendo Switch. The company had sold over 100 million units as of December 2021, and over 25 million of them came from Japan. Meanwhile, the new presentation’s 10th page revealed that Nintendo sold 3.43 million Switch units between April and June 2022. After adding from the previous total of 107.65 million units in March 2022, it has now sold around 111.08 million units of all Switch models combined.

However, Nintendo also noted that it sold fewer Switch units compared to the same quarter in the previous fiscal year, when it sold 4.45 million units. It cited the semiconductor shortage as a reason for the decreased production and sales. The company expects to generate more sales as it will release Splatoon 3 on September 9, 2022, and the Splatoon 3 OLED Switch on August 26, 2022.
