Lots of companies have been sharing more “cosmetic” items to make staying at home easier, and Nintendo has tossed its hat into the ring. It’s trying to make all the extra time in front of computers easier with an array of Nintendo wallpaper options. Or, in the case of many that borrow from iconic game locations from series like Super Mario, Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Xenoblade Chronicles, The Legend of Zelda, Super Smash Bros, and Splatoon, they would work rather well as Nintendo Zoom backgrounds for personal or professional calls. While all of them are available at an official website, we’ll go through each one to provide context about who and what you’re seeing.
With the Animal Crossing: New Horizons wallpapers and Zoom backgrounds, we have scenes welcoming people to their new homes. We have the initial Residential Services setup where Tom Nook would provide his presentations each morning, then the upgraded one where Isabelle welcomes everyone each day. The other two have people in Nook or Timmy and Tommy costumes welcoming you every day.
Like Animal Crossing, the ARMS selections Nintendo provided vary between character-focused and location-based ones. For locations, we have two different perspectives from Spring Man’s Spring Stadium. One of the character-focused ones has Spring Man, Ribbon Girl, Ninjara, Master Mummy, and Mechanica. The other has Spring Man facing Max Brass.
The Fire Emblem: Three Houses wallpapers and Zoom backgrounds focus on major characters and Garreg Mach, the monastery that acts as a player’s headquarters. The first wallpaper draws from the cover art and has Claude, Dimitri, Edelgard, and both versions of Byleth. The second has Sothis as she appears on the game’s title screen. The other two are of Garreg Mach itself, with one looking inside its cathedral.
The Kirby Star Allies backgrounds and wallpapers tend to show off his different potential allies or Dream Friends like Magolor, Marx, or Taranza. One of the boss fight images shows the group fighting Whispy Woods.
The four The Legend of Zelda Nintendo wallpaper options and Zoom backgrounds all pull from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Three tap into official art, while the fourth makes it look like you just found the Master Sword.
The Luigi’s Mansion 3 collection takes people to The Last Resort. The first image is based on the cover art and has Luigi and Gooigi. In the others, we see the outside of the hotel, Luigi in its lobby with Mario and Peach, and Polterpup in E. Gadd’s portable laboratory.
With the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe images, we see different iconic tracks with or without familiar faces on them. Rainbow Road, Mario Circuit, and Mario Kart Stadium are all there, as is a garage area where you might be getting prepped before a race.
Some new Pokemon designs were shared to go with the previously released wallpapers and Zoom backgrounds. This time, Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Eevee! are represented by trainers with the title characters, while Pokemon Sword and Shield take us to the Wild Area and a stadium.
The Splatoon 2 Nintendo wallpaper and Zoom background options get a little creative. For one, we have art inspired by the main image. The other has a bunch of in-universe logos. The third has Off the Hook’s studio for its show. Finally, we can look like we’re in DJ Octavio’s booth.
The Super Mario Maker 2 ones are a jumble of things people could create, though we do get some fun art of Builder Mario and Builder Luigi.
Meanwhile, the Super Mario Odyssey options make it look like you’re visiting different kingdoms. You could virtually see Sand Kingdom, Metro Kingdom, Wooded Kingdom, and Luncheon Kingdom.
The ones for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are rather subtle in comparison. Two have the iconic Smash logo. One takes us to the Battlefield stage, while the other brings us to Final Destination.
Here are the wallpapers for both Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition and Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Both offer the sort of scenic landscapes that would work well for those in search of Nintendo Zoom backgrounds. However, the people you’re talking to might not see the Monado in the case of one image.
As for other art designed to encourage people to stay home, Capcom’s shared images of Chun-Li and Ryu, while Square Enix offered a look into the home life of Final Fantasy XIV characters like Estinien and Alisaie.
