We’re not too surprise this deal happened, but we were a bit surprised at how aggressive Microsoft is pushing to clear out older Xbox One (now that the Xbox One S has been announced and will head to the stores on August 31st). Fresh off of the E3 press conference and news, Microsoft and major retailers are now discounting older Xbox One bundles to as low as $279 for the 500GB bundles, with 1TB bundles going as low as $299.
This was confirmed earlier today by Major Nelson (aka Larry Hryb) and the retailers were quick to update. At current count, Best Buy, Dell, Walmart, and Amazon are all carrying the system at the starting price of $279.99, with select retailers edging out others by offering in extra incentives.
Microsoft’s official store front has once again edge out their retail partners by offering a FREE extra controller when you buy the old Xbox One. You’ll also receive a free copy from a selection of five Ubisoft titles (veteran shoppers are familiar with these games – some of which, such as Assassin’s Creed: Unity are best left unclaimed). At Dell, they are also offering free controller but in lieu of the free game, you’re getting a $50 Dell eGift Card – which is arguably worth more than the 5 old Ubisoft titles being offered by Microsoft.
The best deal in our opoinion is the Xbox One 1TB Spring Bundle (the latest and most likely last Xbox One bundle being offered). The Spring Bundle comes with plenty of games (Halo 5 and more) for only $299. For comparison, the upcoming Xbox One S starts at $299 for the 500GB model with NO games bundled in. Of course, if you’d much rather have newer hardware – we’re almost positive come holiday season, there will be plenty of Xbox One S bundles with games. If you don’t care about the smaller form factor and possible slight performance improvement, the deals below are the cheapest way to game on the Xbox One as of writing.
