PlayStation 4 Shipments Reach 110.4 Million Worldwide

Sony Interactive Entertainment shared its latest financial results with an updated number of PlayStation 4 consoles shipments in the last quarter.

In the previous quarter before that (Q3), the PlayStation 4 console was at 108.9 million units in worldwide shipments as of December 31, 2019. The latest financial report indicates that Sony shipped out 1.5 million units in the fourth quarter. This puts the total up to 110.4 million units in worldwide PlayStation 4 shipments.

PlayStation 4 shipments worldwideSony shipped out 13.6 million units in the entire fiscal year ended March 31, 2020 (FY19).  This tops the company’s forecast of 13.5 million units. However, as you can see, it’s a significant drop from the previous fiscal year (FY18) which moved 17.8 million PS4 consoles.

The number of full game software for the PS4 also saw a drop with 245 million units for FY19. The previous fiscal year (FY18) saw a higher 257.6 million units. However, there’s been a notable increase in full game software digital download ratio in favor of digital titles. In the fiscal year ended March 2019 the ratio was at 37% for digital titles. By the fiscal year ended March 2020, the sale of digital games increased to give it a slight edge with 51% by the end of the business year.

Moreover, there’s been an increase in PlayStation Plus subscribers. Going back a couple of years, there was 34.2 PlayStation Plus subscribers by the end of the fiscal year ended March 2018 (FY17). In the fiscal year ended March 2019 it was up to 36.4 million. We’re currently at the highest it’s been in years with 41.5 million subscribers as of March 31, 2020.

The PlayStation 4 first released in November 2013 in North America and Europe, followed by a Japanese launch in February 2014.
