The Pokemon Center has revealed new Pokemon merchandise designed by Pop Team Epic creator Bkub Okawa, which will release on August 5, 2021. The goods include various t-shirts, mugs, keychains, and stickers that feature Pikachu, Dedenne, and Greedent in a Pikachu-themed idol group. Additionally, the goods will also be available at the Pokemon Center in Tokyo, starting August 7, 2021. [Thanks, Famitsu!]
It’s undeniable that Pikachu has become the mascot of the Pokemon franchise since its inception over two decades ago. The collaboration merchandise further plays on this fact by creating a fictional Pikachu-themed idol group managed by Meowth, in which Pikachu begrudgingly participates. The members of the group, titled the “ピカちゅうず” (Pikachus), are the main characters in the products with keychains and mugs portraying short scenarios through manga panels drawn in Okawa’s signature style.
