Square Enix’s dreams of making games with kid’s mascots

Remember when we discovered the Pure Dreams trademark? It has nothing to do with Radical Dreamers. Pure Dreams is an umbrella brand for a new series of Square Enix games with well known, lovable mascot characters. Two games are announced and both of them are for the Nintendo DS. Snoopy DS: Let’s Go Meet Snoopy and His Friends is a comic action game scheduled to come out on October 9. Pingu’s Wonderful Carnival is coming out a month later on November 6.

Right now both titles are only planned for Japan, but don’t be surprised if Square Enix uses the Pure Dreams label in North America. They trademarked Pure Dreams, but never bothered to register DS Style, their brand for Nintendo DS self-help software. It is strange to see Square Enix license characters rather than using their own, but after the huge success of Kingdom Hearts their plan probably changed. The Pure Dreams label looks like it’s going to target another audience too so I wouldn’t worry about any Dragon Quest and Snoopy crossovers yet.
