Tetris: The Grand Master will be coming to home consoles for the first time. In a tweet made by Aika Vice-President Ichiro Mihara, he explained that the company planned to make an official announcement on November 1, 2021. However, it had to be delayed due to external factors. Mihara also added that Arika has been considering a new fourth entry to the series, but this would be conditional based on the success of the upcoming home ports. Arika previously developed The Grand Master and, more recently, Tetris 99 for Nintendo.
It isn’t clear which of the three titles in the series will be selected for home release or if the release will be a compilation.Tetris: The Grand Master is one of the most difficult of the puzzle games, featuring 999 levels of play and a series of ranks from rank 9 to the Grand Master at the top. Originally released in Japanese arcades in 1998, sequels came in 2000 and 2005.
A spin-off, Tetris: The Grand Master Ace, was released for Xbox 360 in Japan. However, due to the Xbox 360’s region locking and poor sales in the region, only 4,000 copies were sold after 10 weeks of release. As the series has never been released outside of Japan, it’s unclear whether this port will make its way to the rest of the world.
Tetris: The Grand Master is planned for home release, but no release window or console information has been announced.
