The First Slam Dunk Anime Film Teaser Revealed

The official Twitter for The First Slam Dunk has uploaded a short trailer (just under twenty seconds) to tease the upcoming movie. It will air in Japan on December 3, 2022. Toei Animation and Dandelion Animation Studio will produce the movie, with original author Takehiko Inoue serving as the writer and director. There is no news as of yet in regards to a Western release.

Takehiko Inoue first announced the upcoming film on Twitter in 2021. Though the original show, which aired from 1993 to 1996, used traditional animation, The First Slam Dunk will be computer animated. Toei Animation was the original studio to work on the 90’s anime as well. So far, there is no news on if the cast will reprise their roles. There is also no information on the plot of the movie.

Slam Dunk is the seventh best-selling manga series in history, with 170 million copies in circulation. It follows the story of Hanamichi Sakuragi, a delinquent at Shohoku High School. One day, he meets Haruko Akagi and falls in love with her. Akagi introduces him to the high school’s basketball team, where he is a natural despite his somewhat bad attitude. The story follows Sakuragi as he learns to love the sport, as well as the team’s journey to fame.

The First Slam Dunk will debut in theaters in Japan on December 3, 2022.
