Tokyo Game Show 2020’s physical event has been canceled. The announcement was made on May 8, 2020 by its organizers, Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association and Nikkei Business Publications, and Dentsu. It confirmed that a digital alternative will be held in place of an in-person event in the name of protecting people from the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. More information will be released in late May 2020.
The announcement was made via the official Tokyo Game Show 2020 website and is succinct. As things are “unpredictable,” keeping everyone who would have attended safe became the most important goal.

Tokyo Game Show 2020 (TGS2020), scheduled to be held from September 24 (Thu.) to 27 (Sun.), 2020, is now planned to take place online. TGS2020, which is usually held at Makuhari Messe, is cancelled. TGS2020 is organized by the Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA, Chairman: Hideki Hayakawa) and co-organized by Nikkei Business Publications, Inc. (President & CEO: Naoto Yoshida) and Dentsu Inc. (Representative Director: Hiroshi Igarashi).
Due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) on a global scale and the situation remains unpredictable in Japan as well, the organizer and the co-organizers have reached this decision after a long consideration to place the utmost priority on the health and safety of visitors, exhibitors and stakeholders. We ask for your kind understanding and cooperation.
More information will be announced as needed on the official website and press releases from late May.
This is the second cancellation to come up in the last 24 hours. The first was the news that Paris Games Week, which would have been held in September 2020, has been canceled. E3 2020, gamescom 2020, and Evo 2020 also aren’t happening as usual, though gamescom and Evo will be getting digital events instead.
Tokyo Game Show 2020 would have been held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan between September 24-27, 2020.
