At Anime Expo 2022, Trigger Inc. showed off the opening animation for its upcoming show Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. It is available on the Netflix YouTube account. This is not a creditless video, which means that you will see all of the staff who worked on the show in the opening. The song is “This Fffire” by Franz Ferdinand.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is an anime that takes place in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. Studio Trigger first announced it in June 2022, along with a trailer of what to expect from it. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will be a standalone story, and you will not need to have played Cyberpunk 2077 to understand it. The opening features protagonist David, with the backdrop consisting of the psychedelic colors that often appear in Imaishi’s works.
The story of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners follows David, who is a Streetkid-turned-mercenary, in Night City. In a world that focuses on technology and body modification, he tries to stay alive amidst the various politics. Along with him is Lucy, who also has her own set of physical augmentations. For example, she has wires in her arms that she can use as weapons.
During the same panel, Trigger Inc. announced that a new Panty & Stocking anime. It also showed off a short sequence and art. It is in development, and there is no information on if it will be a sequel or a remake of the original.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is in development and will air on Netflix.
