This came up in a movie teaser that featured someone in the Hello Kitty mascot costume on the Warner Bros lot. It showed the company’s iconic water tower with the character’s bow on the upper right side of the logo. You can watch that clip below:

We’ve known a film was in the works since 2019, but updates appeared infrequently. First, we learned Warner Bros was working on one. Then in 2021, Deadline reported it would be both a live-action and animated film. The last one in 2024, which came up at Fortune, only mentioned it was still in development. We don’t know if Jennifer Coyle and Leo Matsuda are still in place as its directors.

While this Sanrio movie won’t be around for a while, there are some recent shows that are immediately available to view. Netflix is the home of both Gudetama: An Eggcellent Adventureand My Melody & Kuromi

Warner Bros will release the Hello Kitty movie in theaters on July 21, 2028.
