Worldwide Final Fantasy VII Remake Sales Pass 3.5 Million in 3 Days

Square Enix has released the first worldwide Final Fantasy VII Remake sales figures, and they’re not terribly surprising. In the first three days the PlayStation 4 game was available, it managed to sell 3.5 million copies across the globe. This number included both digital copies purchased from the PlayStation Store and retail copies people managed to find.

This isn’t too surprising, considering some early reports and estimates that were coming in regarding Final Fantasy VII Remake sales. German market research institute GfK noted it was the UK’s top seller the week it was released, as noted by GamesIndustry.biz on April 12, 2020. Gamstat was also releasing some early estimates about how many people were playing and suggested there were 2.3 million players as of April 12, 2020. Famitsu’s ranking back on April 16, 2020 suggested over 700,000 copies were sold in Japan.

However, the 3.5 million in three days wasn’t a high enough figure to make Final Fantasy VII Remake the best-selling Final Fantasy game. As a reminder, back in December 2016, Square Enix reported that Final Fantasy XV had managed to pass five million sales worldwide on the day that it launched.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is immediately available for the PlayStation 4.
