Here are the highlights:

  • Saito was the one who asked Yoko Taro to come up with a subtitle for this release of NieR Replicant, despite Yoko Taro only wanting to tout this as current-gen ports of the game. As for the name itself, the reason why he chose it was because the newly-added elements aren’t enough to make it a ver. 2, as well as another reason not spoiled by Famitsu.
  • When asked whether or not the atmosphere of the original NieR will be present, Yoko Taro joked that actually it’s the same, as they left it the same as they didn’t have money. Instead, they have focused their efforts on the brand-new content.
  • NieR Replicant ver. 1.22474487139… is being developed by Toylogic, and development of the action combat is being advised by PlatinumGames’ Takahisa Taura so that gameplay will feel good for fans of NieR: Automata.
  • The music for NieR Replicant has been upgraded to have more live orchestral parts, and some tracks have been lengthened. The new content has new tracks composed for it. That said, recording has been affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

NieR Replicant is in development for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.  NieR Gestalt and NieR Replicant first released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in April 2010. You can read about why the game’s an “upgraded version” and not a remaster or remake here. Check out the official website here.
