Reader Response: Resident Evil 4 Wii edition

By Spencer . April 29, 2007 . 12:45pm

I see there is a lack of interest about Puyo Puyo for the Wii. Maybe it’s too similar to the other Puyo Puyo games to warrant coverage or no one likes Puyo Puyo. What about other similar yet slightly tweaked games? Previously we had something up on Nodame Cantabile, a music/rythym game based on the manga with the same name. The game looks sort of like Ouendan or Elite Beat Agents where you tap to the beat on screen. Would you want to see/read more about it?

What about Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition? It’s pretty much like Resident Evil 4, just with motion controls.  Do you want to see more of it or should we skip it? Leave a comment, we’re listening.

Leave it. This game was released for the GameCube, PS2, and will be released on the PC. Tacking on the motion controls on a game DOES make it gimmicky. If this practice is continued, you’ll just keep seeing ports of older games with Wii controls tacked on for quick profits, which in turn will make Wii a gimmicky console. Show me some original games like Trauma Center, where it uses the Wii controls effectively. Things like that can’t be done on a regular controller and that’s what the Wii should be.

IceAmp Says:

WTF! Anorhc Trauma Center is gimmicky too, and the controls for RE Wii are freaking perfect shooting with the remote what more do you freaking want? COVER RE Wii! And that rythm game too

Prince Says:

I’ve already played and beaten Resident Evil 4 numerous times. I am tired of the game already and I am anticipating RE5. This Wii version is a good idea… if it were another game. I won’t be picking it up simply because RE4 is already done and over with for me.

Drkirby Says:

I say cover it, who knows, maybe they will add a few more things to it that aren’t in the other 3 version.

Mr. Mee Says:

I say cover it. The controls may be gimmicky, but that’s what the Wii is about and gimmicky can mean lots of fun. Guitar Hero anyone? I think that the Wii controls will be perfect for Resident Evil 4. I loved RE4. I never got to play the PS2 version so many of the extras will be new to me anyways. Its suppose to sell for like 29.99 too so it’ll be a cheap Wii game. Thats what I need considering I have had the Wii a while and I still own just one game. I am actually more excited about Umbrella Chronicles. I love the arcade light gun games. I’m glad that RE UC is taking that path. It’ll be a fresh take on the series much like RE4 was and apparently will be all over again.

BlueNocturne Says:

Cover it all. :)

the_importer Says:

I sat drop it. Don’t care if it’s good or not, I’m just tired of seeing survival horror games. Never even bother playing the PS2 or GC version since I’m so sick of those type of games.

sabo Says:

forget about it, everyone and their mother has already played this game. if you haven’t then you better get yourself a copy, but me i’ve beaten it a few times on both consoles and don’t wanna hear more about it.

Mr. Mee Says:

the_importer if you are any sort of a fan of action games, I’d say go pick this game up right now cuz it is damn good. You are missing out pal. I played through it and i’d barely call it a survival horror.

Aoshi00 Says:

I only played the GC version, so I might pick up the Wii ver. as well for the PS2 extras. A excellent and addicting action game, definitely wasn’t called game of the year for nothing. Looking forwarding to the light-gun Umbrella chronicles too.

Veilknight Says:

I’m with BlueNocturne on this one, cover everything, including Resident Evil 4 Wii. Cover as many games as you humanly can, the more the merrier. I’m personally under the assumption that the more coverage the better. The way I see things, that’s something we can all benefit from.

Resident Evil 4 is a fine game with plenty of action that never lets up, and as many players will tell you (including me), one of the true grand moments in the game is finding new and creative ways to kill Leon, as crazy as that may sound. The death scenes are more inventive than any other RE in the past, and should be something that you experience firsthand.

Having played the game to death multiple times on the GC, I really have no incentive to purchase the game once again. A quick rental on the weekend should be enough to see everything the Wii version has to offer, as RE 4 isn’t a terribly long game in the first place.
