Rumor Control: Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition not censored for North America

By Spencer . June 5, 2007 . 3:21pm

Since its release last week, there has been buzz about Resident Evil 4 Wii edition being censored. Siliconera reader IceAmp dropped a tip that he (or she? either way thanks!) said decapitations were axed and it looks like the rest of the internet is getting their information from this article on Next-gen. Yeah, Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition has cuts in Japan, but this is the same censorship found in the Japanese Gamecube release. Dead Rising had a similar issue too where it was censored and you can’t shoot innocent people even though it was branded as a CERO Z game. Remember Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition and the original are CERO D games so they have been toned down in comparison. To get to the bottom of this I sent an e-mail over to Capcom asking if Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition would be censored in the USA and here is what they had to say.

Hi Spencer,

The previous versions of RE 4 had these minor differences as well (US vs Japan), so nothing has changed.

If nothing has changed then Japan is getting the same censored Gamecube version and in North America we will be getting the same uncensored content in the North American version.
