Question - Is lag affecting online play in Dragonball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3?

By Spencer . December 7, 2007 . 11:39pm

dbzbt3.jpgI haven’t played DBZ: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 on the Wii yet so I can’t verify any if this is true. However, Teknoman sent over an e-mail (thanks!!) with a link to the Atari forums where fans are less than pleased about the strongest selling point, online play. An Atari representative confirmed they are aware of the lag problem and responded to the comments with, “this is more of a Nintendo issue. Atari does not handle the WiFi.”

I didn’t hear about any of these problems when Dragonball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 came out in Japan. Is lag an issue for anyone who bought the North American version?

Its a Christmas gift for me from me so I hope by Christmas they fix it

Yakusoku20 Says:

I got this as an xmas gift, and even though I begged to play it, I cant yet, not till xmas. TEAR.

Master Hoff Says:

Yeah, the lag is pretty bad. Sometimes it makes the game unresposive.

Skitzodajuggalo Says:

OH YES! There is LAG and plenty of it. IT SUX!!! When you connect online and the screen comes up to fight someone, and even waiting for someone to fight its is relatively quick, but once you get into the actual fight, it goes straight to hell! I have heard if you connect with someone closer to where you live like in the same state, the lag is not so bad.. I have no idea if this is true or not :( I WANNA BEAT UP PEOPLE(ONLINE)

Teknoman Says:

Yeah its definatly that way… Here are two videos displaying the lag as well:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=Swt_I0JGxDU (sorry no sound, just got a firewire card a few days ago, but when I recorded this, it was on my digital camera)

and

You can see that its a combination of lag (whenever giru appears, its stabilizing the connection) and strange slowdown that seems to be only present in laggy conditions online. Though some people are reporting that when fighting someone nearby online, its nearly the same as playing offline. Though some people have also reported that location doesnt help at all….so take that as you will.

Teh Link Says:

I have played a couple of matches on the NTSC version of DBZ BT3 and I can confirm they are very laggy, and irritating.
You may sometimes get lucky and find a good half laggy match, but other then that it’s pure crap currently.

dreiko Says:

Yes on some matches there’s so much lag that button inputs do not register and you see the characters standing looking at eachother when during the offline play there’s frantic fast-paced action during every second of the game.

That is due to people’s super slow connections i believe since i have had many rounds without any lag , so there CAN be a way of playing without lag even now that’s a fact.

I suppose basic cable is not so basic in the homes of american dbz fans….

dbzfan Says:

Yes, it’s a real problem, I have the game, they need to fix this ASAP.

Anonymous Lagger Says:

What tickles me is all the top ranked people. It leads to be believe either the lag only affects certain areas-And these people are having lag free games, or people are taking major advantage of the lag issue.

Overlord Says:

Yes, the lag can be very terrible. The controls can be very unresponsive so any strategy for close combat is ruined and it basically turns into who can blast the other first. Now there have been some not so laggy matches but they only occur about 40% of the time. This really needs to be fixed.

Teknoman Says:

Alot of the high rankers (especially people who use Omega/Syn Shenron) are just taking lag advantage, and spamming the same attacks over and over.

I guarantee once the lag is fixed, the majority (not all but most) of the top ranked wont be there anymore.

Bill45 Says:

I hoped this is fixed eventually, cause no matter if i have wireless or if that LAN adapter on I just get some horrible laggy matches of where me and the opponent just taunt each other for like 2mins.

Terry87 Says:

this fairy tale about if your in the same state or even close by can speed up the frame rate or is fast just like offline is a total joke. My cousin and I both bought the game on the release date and both went online immediately and the connection was crap, WE LIVE IN THE SAME BUILDING. He lives floor above me, when i search for a network his shows up as well as mine so don’t be fooled by this rumor, nintendo needs to fix this as soon as possible, it is soooooooooo irritating.

jin007 Says:
