Shake it with Soul Eater: Monotone Princess

By Spencer . April 30, 2008 . 11:20am

I’m not at all familiar with the Soul Eater series, but I’m curious to see which direction Square Enix is going to go with Wiimote controls. Are they going to have motion controlled swinging or a button layout with a dash of waggle?

Since the official Soul Eater: Monotone Princess site is live we have a pretty good idea, it’s the former. Players get to shake the remote from side to side to produce slashes and thrust it forward for a different attack. Right now the combat sounds simplistic, it might be basic, but to be fair Square Enix is just beginning to release details on how Soul Eater plays.

Few action RPGs on the Wii are using immersion style sword swinging. I guess Square Enix has nothing to lose then. Even if Soul Eater: Monotone Princess has basic controls it will still standout from the other games on the market.

Chris Dahlberg Says:

Is this a license Square could possibly bring here?

Spencer Says:

@Chris - It’s entirely possible since it’s part of their manga line up. Let’s put it this way if someone picks up the anime like Full Metal Alchemist we’ll see Soul Eater: Monotone Princess.

I’m not too much into RPGs but I do follow both the manga and anime of Soul Eater. They both rock!!

If ya’ll liked FMA and think the anime was good, get ready for this one. It’s so far more true to the original storyline, and the animation is a bliss.

Lookin fwd to import that one for my japanese Wii when the release date is announced ;)

Thx for the intell once again, Spencer.

I would not normally point out a spelling correction, but “Square Enix has nothing to loose” - loose? Come on now..

Pedro Silva Says:

looks crap, sadly, PS2 got big budget efforts and low budget ones like the FMA ones, it’s only natural that Wii should be getting the same… not the low budget ones and then some more low budget chocobo spin-off’s

There are 2 thing s I hope for this game.
1. You can play as people other than Maka
2. It comes out in America
