EA vs. Konami, Rock Band vs. Rock Revolution

All that trademark digging wasn’t a wasted effort. Konami is developing Rock Revolution and its hard not to compare it against Rock Band despite Konami’s history with Bemani. In Rock Revolution players get to bang on drums and strum plastic guitars, but there won’t be any singing. The other difference is the drum has six pads and a pedal. DrumMania, Konami’s arcade drumming game, has five pads and pedal. Rock Band has four pads and a pedal.

Konami could have easily thrown singing into Rock Revolution since they developed Karaoke Revolution. However, Konami has to differentiate their game from Rock Band somehow. Perhaps, Konami is trying to make Rock Revolution appear hardcore by making it look more complicated with an extra drum pad to hit.

Rock Revolution is scheduled to come out this year on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and the Nintendo DS. The DS version doesn’t plug and play instruments like Guitar Hero: On Tour.

While Konami is undoubtedly the father of Guitar Hero and Rock Band, Rock Revolution hardly seems revolutionary. Perhaps, Konami can capitalize on the niche group of GuitarFreaks and DrumMania fans by releasing original Konami songs as downloadable content.

You forgot that the Wii version also does not have any instruments, and that all songs in the game are covers.

Hopefully Konami will be lucky and miracly take the audience from EA’s game, please god.

well gh4 s now impleme nting the 5 pad drums and dingin (But no drum compatibility with rock band)
so there is a big comptition out there

Camden Says:

Too bad all of the songs in Rock Revolution are covers. Hopefully, if this game does well, more technical and instrumental bands will want their songs in for a sequel.

SwordOfWar Says:

This game is going to be a huge flop. Rock Band has already gotten a head start and has loads of downlodable songs.

Rock Revolution only brings what? 2 more drum pads and no singing, oh and less selection of good songs… so what exactly makes it worth buying versus Rock Band?

Does anyone else hate how the notes come down from the screen in Rock Revolution? In other games its not exactly verticle, but in Rock Revolution its 100% verticle so you have to move your eyes a lot (from top to bottom of screen) to keep track of the notes and that is going to get annoying.

Rock Band > Rock Revolutions

Sorry folks but you need more than 2 extra drum pads to make the whole game look better than whats already out now.
