D3 Publisher hopes to expand Onechanbara R for North America

I saw Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers at E3, but it was just the Japanese version better known as Onechanbara R.  We couldn’t play it either, but I know what to expect: slashing zombies with motion control. I don’t think many people are aware of that Onechanbara R is only a slice of the Onechanbara universe. Aya, the iconic protagonist in a bikini and cowboy hat, and Saki, the vicious looking girl in a school uniform, are the only two playable characters in the Japanese version. However, the Onechanbara series has many more playable characters like Anna who wields a pistol from Onechanbara VorteX and Reiko from The Onechanbara 2.

D3 Publisher is exploring options to see if they can add new characters in Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers which makes sense since Tamsoft has plenty of assets lying around. Nothing has been confirmed at this point, but D3 is also seeing if it’s possible to sneak in enemies and stages not found in the Japanese game. Let’s hope they pull something off.

I’ll definitely buy this in support of more releases but I’d like to know what they plan to do about voice overs. I haven’t tried the Wii version but I’m assuming there’s some VA, here’s to hoping they can leave it in (as well as provide dub for others to enjoy)

Me too… Keeping the original voices is even more important to me than having extra content (not that I don´t appreciate the effort though).

I´m glad that several publishers have recognized this demand in the last years and have made efforts to include them. Let´s hope that this is one of those cases…(if there´s VA available on this one, of course).

Hey guys, Aya and Saki aren’t the only two characters you can play as in Oneechanbara R, there’s also the motorcycle chick with the shotgun and the new character in the blood stained dress that swings a huge spikey whip thing.

I can’t remember their names, but yeah. :]

  • Awesome news spencer, i will so get it if it gets released.

  • @jeffx / seiya19 – I guess you two will be happy to know the plan is to keep the original voiceovers in the game. D3 Publisher hopes to add French text too, but these are early ideas. I remember I saw Earth Defense Force way before anyone cared about it and they wanted to keep the Japanese voices. Later they decided to have B-rated voiceovers which fit the game well.

Thanks, glad to hear it. I hope they don´t change their minds…

By the way, I checked the japanese site of the game and it seems that Namey McName is right, there´s 2 more characters that appear to be playable. One of them is called Reiko (probably the one you mentioned before) and the other one is called Misery. Both fit Namey McName´s descriptions.
