This Week In Imports: The Colors (And Robots) Of Spring

By Spencer . March 15, 2009 . 7:45pm

image Sony and Nintendo are ringing spring in with pastel portables. Spirited Green PSPs and pink Nintendo DSis come out this week. Super Robot Taisen K and its Gundam Seed goodness launches with the three new DSi colors. Most of this week’s new releases are on portables. ASCII Media Works unites characters from Dengeki Bunko light novels like Kino’s Journey to make Dengeki Gakuen RPG: Cross of Venus. Kuroshitsuji: Phantom & Ghost expands the series with new story. And Brandish: Dark Revenant gives a new generation of gamers upward facing dungeon crawling.

What’s out on consoles in Japan? Baseball games and Darts Wii. Anything worth importing this week or are domestic releases like Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume, Suikoden Tierkreis, and Rune Factory Frontier enough to keep you busy?

This is a really dry week for me. The only thing on there that interests me is the Spirited Green PSP but I already have a perfectly fine PSP-1000 so its hardly worth the investment.

By the way Spencer, we have had some people from Europe post on here as well. Perhaps if this becomes a regular thing you should add key European and SEA releases as well.

    • I want this to be a regular thing! I mean if people find it useful to see what’s coming out in other regions we’ll keep doing it. You’re right about the European visitors. We can try to get PAL lists but its tricky over there since some games like Case Closed don’t get properly distributed throughout all of Europe.

If by SEA you mean South East Asia? I squeezed the relevant ones in last time. The only Asian release this week is MLB 2009 the show and since that’s in the US it didn’t get a mention.

Total side note… we could use a European expert on Siliconera….

I like these posts, and I do hope they become a regular thing on the site. So, please, keep doing them! :)

As far as releases this week, I’ll have to be the DS fiend that I am and just pick up Henry Hatsworth. I went a bit crazy this last weekend on the whole “buy 2 get 1 free” deal at Gamestop. Not sure if I can manage anymore spending than that. I’d really like Brandish, but I’m not sure if I’d like it enough to try to stumble through it in Japanese.

  • Well, the only one I’m picking up this week is Suikoden Tierkreis, partly because of the preorder bonus.. though I plan on picking up Valkyrie Profile, Resistance: Retribution, and possibly GTA at some point in the future.

I can only afford so many new games, and those are usually the ones with collector’s editions or preorder bonuses. *hugs RE5*

  • You’ve definitely gotta add in a Euro/UK list for folks like me.

I’m kind of stuck with a glut of games I want to play (Suikoden, Valkyrie, Rune Factory) and not a lot of cash to spend to play it. Add to that fact that I have a mish mash of game consoles (UK PS3, US Wii and 360) and you can see that it gets hard to juggle what I really want to import and what choices I have around me currently. (Thank goodness the DS and PSP aren’t region locked!)

But definitely nice to know what the latest choices are… now I know where part of my birthday money is going… XD

Super Robot Taisen K…, oh how I wish I could understand thee. :(

+1 for a bit of coverage specific to Yurop. Precisely _because_ (as Spencer said) some niche releases are not distributed in every country. It’s sometimes all too easy to miss those.

  • Dengeki Gakuen RPG: Cross of Venus — holy crap! It has Kino AND Shana? Ugh, there’s zero chance of it coming here, but that seems like a really great grouping of anime characters. Haha, just had to voice my surprise at seeing something like that.
