Professor Layton And The Less Mysterious Localization

By Spencer . March 27, 2009 . 10:05am

image Level 5 is not giving up on releasing the Professor Layton games overseas. During a GDC panel Akihiro Hino, President of Level 5, mentioned the second game in the series will come out here under the name Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box (thanks for the tip David!!). Hino hopes it will be ready in six months.

The wait for the next Professor Layton game has been a long one, but Level 5 has been working on a ton of high profile projects. White Knight Chronicles (the international version), Dragon Quest IX, Inazuma Eleven, and a new Layton trilogy are just some of the games they are working on. Also, the Professor Layton series can’t be easy to localize since the puzzles and answers can’t be directly translated. Some of them have to be adapted to make sense as brain teasers, others have to be scrapped entirely.

Great to finally have a confirmation on sequel for the States.

I’m stuck on most of the bonus puzzles in Layton, and I still can’t figure out that darned star one. I know I can look it up, but I actively refuse to. I don’t really plan on touching the game again anytime soon though.

I really wish they would bring over inazuma eleven

Yeah, forget Professor boredom! I’d rather have any other level 5 game than the conclusion of the Layton series… Inazuma 11 would be great to have in english.

I don’t enjoy their games that much, but I NEED Inazuma 11.

hooray, I’m so happy to hear it’s coming. But it really is taking looonnnggg (I know the puzzles take time, but even so, it’s been like 2 years since it was released in Japan > <)

I hope they translate the Layton side story too. (Layton’s London Holiday) I think that would be a great game to have for download on the DSi.

Awesome, finally getting these games w/ genuine British dialogue. I’ve always wondered how some of the puzzles were altered, but even in the Jpn version there are quite a few puzzles that require knowing English vocab. I actually haven’t compared any of them yet since I only played Curious Village in Eng. and the 2nd/3rd in Jpn. W/ more Layton & Dragon Kai anime, it’s a good time to be alive.
