Square Enix And SNK Blast Announce Xbox Live Arcade Games

image The Xbox conference is over in Japan and a hot press release from the event reveals a truckload of unannounced games. We’ll start with something that has been announced, Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram Ver. 5.66. It’s coming out next week on April 29 along with Banjo-Tooie.

Lingering in development, but scheduled to come out this year are three Xbox Live Arcade games from Square Enix. You already heard about Yosumin Live.  0 Day Attack on Earth, a multiplayer shooting game, and Project Cube, a multiplayer action game are now on our radar. SNK will port The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match (yes, this was just released on the PS2), Garou: Mark of the Wolves, and develop The King of Fighters: Sky Stage — a shooting game of some sort. Interesting! Wait a second…. where’s Metal Slug 7? SNK announced it at TGS 2008, but it’s missing from the line up which stretches into 2010.

Are you serious? Garou!? This has to be the greatest thing SNK has done in years. A proud day to be alive. I can only hope it will also have good online with it. I love Garou.

King of Fighters 98 Ultimate Match was also announced for Live at the same time as Metal Slug 7, and it too is nowhere to be found. As for King of Fighters Sky Stage, it has this Castle of Shikigami approach that catches my eye, here’s hoping SNK is still capable of putting together a sweet shooter.

Very true, it’s still on SNK’s list though while Metal Slug 7 isn’t. It’s probably not canceled, but SNK may have felt they should space out the XBLA version further from the DS game.

Awesome, very reassuring to hear. Especially for me, as I’ve already picked up Metal Slug 7 on the DS upon release, yet decided to skip on KOF 98 for now and wait it out for the Live release.

Wow, KOF 2002 UM on Live Arcade? The 360 is getting more tempting as time goes on!

No info about Under Defeat? It’s taking a long time.

SE needs to develop more ‘casual games’ that don’t necessarily cost millions to develop. Mini games based on FF & other current IP (intellectual property) is a good move. This also helps open up potential markets for games, not only current IP but things they are exploring but unsure of.
