Color Coded Slimes Seen In Dragon Quest Wars Screenshots

imageIn just a few weeks Square Enix will release Dragon Quest Wars on DSiWare. Fire Emblem developers Intelligent Systems created Dragon Quest Wars as a simplified strategy RPG with colorful slimes.

When you enter a four on four battle enemy teams are color coded red, green, and yellow. The screenshots show a bunch of slimes, but not much monster variation. Where are the hulu dancers, robot hunters, and shield throwing Hippoblockomi?

I guess I can’t ask for too much since Dragon Quest Wars is a 500 DSiWare ($5) game. Perhaps, Square Enix could have saved money if they reused sprites from their Super Nintendo games instead of making 3D models. Classic sprites would have looked just as good, if not better.

Looking forward to this, especially the 4p mode. I expect it to play out like some sort of mini-chess where you can play a handful of matches during lunch break.

Are there any details about the skills of the monsters, or how they differ in movement?

    • Mini-chess, I like that description!

I haven’t heard of any monster details yet, but when it comes out I’ll write about them.

Me too. Especially because it does have online, right? I’m not sure how many people I know in real life will want to play this one with me…

    • Dragon Quest Wars has online play too.

  • Looks like a decent little strategy game for someone who is looking for something on that service.

  • Looks like I’ll have to buy a DSi…
