Experience Virtual Love 24/7 With Love Plus

love-plus-1Konami’s got a new dating game coming out for guys that’s pretty revolutionary. Love Plus is scheduled to debut on the DS on September 3, 2009. The tagline is, “Always in love… 365 days. Feel this love every day and night.” Incredibly appropriate because it’s the first dating game visual novel to take place in real time.

While Love Plus is technically a visual novel dating simulation, Konami is billing it as a communication game. How long you spend playing, combined with what time and what season, help determine what events you’ll trigger. By spending extended periods of time with one of the three chaseable girls in the game, Manaka Takane, Rinko Kobayakawa and Nene Anegasaki, you help build an emotional connection with her. As time goes on, you can even end up marrying one of them.

Konami is known for touch screen dating games, such as Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side 1st Love, TMGS 2nd Season and Hana Yori Dango DS, so it should come as no surprise that there is a physical element as well. There’s a touching/flirting option, where players can touch and “kiss” the girls. Famitsu also mentions that there will be a beach event with the girls where the player rubs suntan lotion on them.

love-plus-2Also, like the Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side DS games, people play Love Plus while holding the DS like a book. The touch screen features the girl you’re talking to and meeting with, while the opposing screen displays pertinent additional information. Especially intriguing is the fact that there’s a combination of CG images and 3D character models used throughout the game. It seems like CG images will be used for special in-game “events” and the 3D models will appear during normal daily visits and dates.

Of course, this means Love Plus is going to be a bit like Animal Crossing. If you want a character like you more, you have to visit on her birthday and holidays. Conversely, if you slip up, you’ll fall from grace and likely have to spend more time trying to win her back.

  • Oh, boy . . .
So, would girlfriends/wives see this as “cheating”? ;-P
Virtual love age – we’re getting there!

    • If my girlfriend could speak Japanese, I would get this for her and see how it turns out. As it is, I suppose I could just play it myself : D

    • Nov

i already considered it cheating when my bf went “Ahhh~ edgeworth” *dreamy* and “OMG leon is so hot!”

  • squall3031

when you say it’s coming, do you mean it’s coming to US or Japan?

    • Japan. I doubt we’ll be seeing any game like this in the US anytime soon.

      • QBasic
        • Visual novels in general have been around in the States for a while, though.
I’d love to see the reactions of people about this game if it were able to get published here!

        • Ah, but this has the touching/groping aspects of the DS Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side games and the Hana Yori Dango DS game. Which I don’t think Nintendo of America is ready to see outside of Japan yet.

          • QBasic

            Xseed to the rescue, then!

  • Vino (Tim N)

I doubt we’ll see this in the US. I’ll be porting this though. For the game itself and for making another point in DS history.

  • Aoshi00

Very interesting idea. I just saw the trailer on Konami’s site and the 3-D animation is really good. The kick is the girl would confess to you if you shower her w/ enough attention.

But this sounds like too much management as a form of escape from the real g/f or wife, lol..

Minaguchi Yuuko (Videl DBZ / Yawara) as Nene, I want this game..

  • TurkeyPotPie

Are you sure this time element is all that new? I remember playing a Saturn game ages ago that used the realtime clock that sounds somewhat like your description. It was called Roommate, and I think it spawned a whole series of games (never played anything but that first one).

    • I think it’s a new concept for a dating game. But I’m not sure, since I never owned a Saturn or played the game you’re talking about.

  • Tamagotchi Plus.

  • shion16

“there’s a touching/flirting option, where players can touch and “kiss” the girls”

You have to kiss the DS
    thats a little bit………..scary

    • M’iau M’iaut

That one’s been used before. In both the Maho Shinpans you had to blow kisses to get those tots excited so you could learn who was a witch. And for the other side of things, that help ‘train’ the bishie boys game did the same.

      • Used in Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side DS as well. You could even get a different ending image if you “kissed” the guys when they were confessing.

  • I’m gonna wait for the inevitable DSi version with downloadable girlfriends and events. :D

    • That’s probably be a HUGE download if they did it, since I think they’re going with full voice acting.

The idea of downloadable events sounds really cool though!

      • Hey, Miyamoto was the one that wanted the SD card support on there. They’d better make use of it!

Plus, DSi potentially means better graphics — unless they’re using the cam. In which case, there are probably some very creative (and potentially embarrassing) things they could do with the next game.

        • Very true!

I’m not quite sure how I feel about the DSi camera options in games so far. It doesn’t really get much (good) use in console games, so I’m hesitant to see it implemented in portable games.

Unless it’s like in the DS [email protected] game, where it could be used to unlock new costumes. Or, in my hopeful dream port of FF: Before Crisis. :P

          • Well, they could use it to, say, help create an ingame version of your character. Or perhaps, the camera could detect your face trying to look at it from different angles and show you the girls from varying perspectives accordingly? Just a thought.

Edit: Thought I’d make this a bit clearer. This happens in realtime; ie, as you move your head around, so does the ingame camera.

          • Aoshi00

Pretty cool idea, detecting the player looking at the girl sounds really high tech.

Several days ago, I wouldn’t have cared about how they would implement these new DSi features into the new DS games. But I just got my mitts on the Gyakuten Kenji DSi (tempted by the Blue Badger and a really good deal), so I say bring it on!

          • Had to reply to my own comment instead of yours, Aoshi.

Damn you! You got the Gyakuten Kenji DSi?!

          • That’s true, and it does make sense! I’d like to see that implemented.

And Aoshi00 I am also very jealous! :D You got a great DSi!

          • Aoshi00

lol, I gave in to the temptation, blue badger is hypnotic! I told myself I wasn’t going to get it, thought it was impossible since I wasn’t going to blow $300 on it, but I lucked out on an amazing deal on ebay, only $215 total brand new (seller needed the cash)! I figure the game is 50 alrdy, so that makes the LE DSi $165.

I’m so anxious to try out the cameras and stuff and make a wacky face, but I need to get the screen protectors first (and applying it is the most frustrating step). So I’m going to play the game first on my Lite.

Got to be really careful though, it’s snow white, I need to wash my hands every time I touch the system.

  • KonradChin

It’s about bloody time, I was getting kinda sick of the Tokimemo girl stuff. Now if they’d only make Tokimemo 4….

    • I’m kind of hoping for a Tokimemo Girl’s Side 3 created specifically for the DS. XD

  • cj_iwakura

Nice still art, but the graphics on the models look pretty bad.

    • Aoshi00

The screenshot doesn’t do the 3D models justice though, in motion they actually look quite good, even more natural than the 2D cel-shaded girls in, say, Time Leap for 360.

  • perfectdarkzer0

i got the game now.but i wonder if there is a lot of voice acting coz i cant read kanji. XD im running out of otome games so i’ll try to be the guy this time and please these chicks. XDD

  • perfectdarkzer0

wahaha i finished the game and once you finished it the real game starts.waah.i thought it’s boring.
