Konami posted a small (very small!) update on Ninety-Nine Nights II. The game’s new publisher released a batch of screenshots showing a darker world, rugged hero, and about two dozen clones.

The setting hasn’t changed much since we last saw the game, aside from the monster with eyes on its arms. Maybe its design was inspired from Contra’s grotesque aliens. Maybe not. Microsoft, Q Entertainment, and Feelplus have been pretty secretive about Ninety-Nine Nights II after announcing it about a year ago.

Very pretty screenshots. I just hope they’re doing as much work on the gameplay side of things, as the original N3 left much to be desired.

Well the graphics are certainly improved but I want to know whats changed about the gameplay. Still I doubt even with the graphical changes this game, will break away from the mundane. Realistically speaking this can only play like one of two things, 1. Dynasty Warriors, which without that good Ol’ Yellow turban rebellion wont even have cheesy nostalgia to fall back on. 2. God of War, look I love Kratos and the God of War series helped to define the action genre but only GOW can be GOW. I have never played a clone that was better then the original.on a different topic I wonder why MS seems to be breaking away from publishing some of these titles themselves, its not like the MS Game Studios brand is SO busy right now.

Good to see some yellow turban rebellion love.

Realistically NNN2 is just going to be dynasty warriors with prettier graphics – theres no way the game is going to rapidly evolve into something completely different to the original game in 1 generation

You got that right! Despite how the Dynasty Warriors series has not changed, I find that I still like them but its clones I find to be dull.

While the backgrounds and game may look a better and a bit darker I can’t help but feel this “rugged” hero they have looks really…bland? I’m not sure. I thought some of the character designs in the last one weren’t that bad and had a lot of promise. Here’s hoping that we get a bunch of interesting characters!

Main Character reminds me of Rygar Wii meets RE4 Krauser with a little bit of Gene from God Hand… but way more generic. (all hail Gene!)

Totally, he’s your generic tough guy. I liked N3′s more original characters like the goblin and troll. Even Inphyy had a graceful style to her. Because of that she got stuck with an ear piercing voice, but that’s another story!

Dwingvatt was great, indeed! I even thought the designs for Tyurru and Klarrann were cool on top of the others. I hope Mr. Generic Tough Guy is the only “Generic” we get. …ear piercing… hahaha!
