Okamiden Trailer Shows Off Stylus Actions

By Ishaan . September 8, 2009 . 10:20am

Here’s our first glimpse of Chibiterasu and Issun running around to the Shinsuu Fields music in Okamiden. The trailer also gives you a quick look at the combat.

Any guesses for what the controls will be? I’m going to go with D-pad for movement and holding L for activating the brush. Regular attacks by tapping on an enemy, similar to Phantom Hourglass.

That leaves us with two questions:

1.How do you jump? Can you jump manually?

2. Will the face buttons be used for anything or will Capcom use them to provide left-handed controls like FPSes on DS?

i hope they do option 2 cause im left handed

    • Same here. I learned to adapt over these years but I would love the option.

      This looks really amazing btw.

The consideration of developers was the only reason I was able to play stuff like TWEWY and Moon. It’s not like I won’t be able to play Okamiden if the face buttons aren’t mapped as a left-handed D-Pad, but it’s going to be a lot less comfortable.

Do the Japanese have any strange/dumb superstitions relating to left-handedness? I’d hate for cultural bias (if there was any) to get in the way of playing the game…

I don’t think they have anything against southpaws, but lefty are not as common as in the US right? Since people are encouraged to write and hold chopsticks w/ right hand usually.

Gah, I’ve got to get around to playing the first one already ~_~
This really looks great, but I’d feel way too guilty playing the sequel first >.>

I think it looks a bit better on the Famitsu page. http://www.famitsu.com/game/news/1227335_1124.html

Question is, does it look too good for a non-DSi game?

Capcom, we need an american date release, pronto. Seriously this game looks awesome. I hope they put left-handed controls. I can adapt, but is a really nice detail when a company thinks in the needs of the left handed people.

  • This looks more and more impressive the more I look at it! I can’t wait until it comes out!

I would have to say that it’d probably control more like Phantom Hourglass where you just touch where you want to go and tap/slash to attack, meaning you’d have to hold a shoulder button to activate Stylus/Brush control. It already appears from the trailer that all the action is on the touchscreen, meaning the top screen is probably just a permanent HUD.

Looks great, the stylus would probably be a lot less frustrating than the Wii remote, sometimes swings just don’t register.. I actually only played a little of the game and just put a couple of hours in it last night (used Labor Day to do some catch up), the game was awesome! I hope to finish Okami before getting Okamiden. I like the subtitle, “little sun” :)

  • Wow, Sosano’s girl is cute.

The one riding Chibiterasu? That’s his son if so.
