Tales of Vesperia Coming To Wii?

Namco Bandai may be working on another version of Tales of Vesperia, but the news isn’t directly from them. Rikiya Koyama, the voice of Duke in Tales of Vesperia, says on his blog Tales of Vesperia started as an Xbox game, then it came to PS3 and would appear on the Wii next.

 

Koyama notes the strength of the Vesperia brand and the animated move so he may have meant a new game in the Vesperia line, a spin-off similar to Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of a New World. Or he may have been talking about a port. It’s not like Namco Bandai is shy about porting Tales games.

 

Personally, I’d prefer a spin-off. Maybe something that ties in with Tales of Vesperia: The First Strike.

      Exactly. Even if it is ported, we probably won’t get it.

      Gotta love Bamco’s milking of the Tales series.

    If this turns out to be true, and it is a port of the PS3 version, I feel like that would increase the chance of both of them making it to the US.

    So… make it happen Namco!

    I thought that Vesperia’s ending was kind of weak, so I’d really like a direct sequel, to be quite honest.

      Weak as it may have been, there’s little they could do to make a full-length sequel for it, in my opinion.

    People actually think there’ll be a port?I’d bet 500 spacebucks he means some sort of spinoff….I find it really hard to care either way because the likelihood that this will see an English release isn’t that good…

    I’m already planning on getting the PS3 version if it gets localized. I don’t think I’m going to get it the third time… o_o;

      Not so much, they’ll probably tone down/change the shading, but other than that and the resolution, Vesperia already looks like a PS2 game pretty much. No massive geometry, no complex overworld, no deep AI… I think it’d be an easier transition than Soulcalibur 4 or Tekken 6 to PSP were really.

      Hell, Graces almost looks as good, albeit in SD.

        IMO, it actually looks mostly better. I mean… it has motion capture, and yes, graphically it has about the same stuff going on albeit in SD.

        The cel shading Vesperia uses is not out of Wii’s league either, it’s very wind waker’ish and… well, there’s Red Steel doing loads of stuff with cel shading on the Wii right now as well.

        Although I guess it’ll depend on how much Namco is investing on this one, and on how talented/experienced the team in question is. They’re doable though, reason why when Vesperia was unveiled people thought it was a Wii game, a good looking one, but a wii game.

      ToV is really that good? I haven’t had the luxury of opening/playing it yet. I’m curious. Which Tales games would you compare it with?

      I’m torn. I think I’ll most likely want to play Graces first since I like the artstyle of that game better. It looks more European than Vesperia, which I loved about FFXII, too.

    PS3 or bust for me, the Wii is not the type of system I spend 50+ hours playing an RPG on. I know its coming Bamco but the lack of an announcement is sloppy. Also if the PS3 version has been without a proper announcement this long what makes you all think the Wii version would even be thought of for localization? Especially given the way 3rd party games have been selling for it, we dont even know if Graces is coming over let alone a spin off or port to a game whos primary audience is on other consoles.

    On one hand, I think they’re doing what they should have done from the very beggining, supporting the Wii platform with Team Symphonia games, since most Tales fans outside Japan are Team Symphonia fans anyway… and they became fans after Tales of Symphonia on GC, not to mention Wii is a leading platform and as such, Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the New World made on the prospect of recycling 5 year old assets on a unoptimized ported engine was nothing short of ridiculous. If anything the non-leading platform should have gotten it, instead of subjecting a leading one to that.

    On the other hand… I don’t think revisiting stuff is that compelling, I’d much rather have the next Team Symphonia game on my Wii than getting a two year old one now; and… even worse, I sure hope they aren’t using Team Ratatosk as codemonkeys to port this, we deserve better/preferential treatment.

    It has to be a spin-off/sequel, a Wii port is overkill IMO.

      not really, the geometry for that game is PS2′ish, except it’s in HD, and the overworld map is as lowpoly as it gets… Arc Rise Fantasia, a game made by ex-Team Symphonia staffers looks so much better when it comes to the overworld map… and it’s a Wii game.Overkill for the hardware, it isn’t. Past the time to be done, at this point? perhaps, but I’ll buy it, providing it’s good.Hopefully Namco Bandai will put the next Team Symphonia game on the Wii from the very beggining next time (I’m not saying for it to not come out on other platforms, mind you)

    I see where Hello_Hello is coming from, but I have to agree with you. To say that the ending was inadequate is an understatement, considering how enjoyable the game was, but it’s not like they could do anything more substantial than retconning the ending.

    People won´t pay to play a watered down port.

      Like they didn’t for Resident Evil 4 on the PS2? Or Mortal Kombat on the SNES? or… Metal Slug on the PSone? or…People forget lots of gamers only have a Wii, it’s a market leading platform so it’s warranted. Yes, I said gamers.

      And then again, the game doesn’t even have to be watered down, taking resolution aside, if it gets watered down it’ll be Namco’s doing willst porting. the geometry is decidedly not that much better than Tales of the Abyss, and while the character models are way better, let’s just say TotA didn’t push the PS2, and the Wii ain’t a PS2. They’re doable, as is the cel shading… as is everything, taking HD resolution aside.
