Deadly Premonition Will Be $20 When It Debuts

By Spencer . November 10, 2009 . 6:19pm

Remember when budget games and Platinum Hits re-releases were $20? Now they’re $30 which means Deadly Premonition will be cheaper than a reprint of Street Fighter IV when it comes out next year.

Shane Bettenhausen, Director of Business Development at Ignition, said Deadly Premonition will be $19.99 on day one. (Thanks for the tip Jed!!) At that price Ignition should be able to pick up anyone remotely curious about the town of Rainy Woods.

And, yes Deadly Premonition was once called Rainy Woods. We confirmed that with Ignition and asked them about a possible PlayStation 3 version too.

Deadly Premonition, when it was called Rainy Woods, was originally a multiplatform game. The trailer, released by Ignition earlier today, even has PlayStation buttons. Note the X and O used for Attack and Reload from this screen capture. We asked about a PlayStation 3 version and a representative responded with, “At the moment we can only confirm what is available in the press release.  In other words, it is only available on the Xbox 360.”

Here’s the teaser trailer Ignition sent out.

  • The price point and trailer make me a little hesitant about how game this is going to end up being.

From what I gathered from reading this, it’s only $20 the first day as a promotional price.Hopefully the PS3 version will do the same thing.

EDIT: re-reading it again, I guess that really means it’ll be $20 from day one and onward.

So this has been downgraded and become a downloadable game now? Looks kind of underwhelming after the original Rainy Woods trailer.. I guess that’s why it’s $20 and not looking to compete w/ Heavy Rain and Alan Wake..

    • No it’s still retail, just $20 at retail.

      • Aoshi00

I just assumed it was downloadable because of the Xbox Live logo at the end of the trailer, I guess they all say Xbox Live for all 360 games, I don’t remember… Probably too big for a d/lable game though.

  • Divals

If I had a 360 I’d definitely buy this, if only just to support the audacity of a $20 price point. Though the game does look interesting. Here’s hoping for a ps3 version..

  • MisterNiwa

Im the only one laughing his ass off because it is a XBox Trailer with PS3 footage?
Even better, they say there is no PS3 version? lol.

  • kupomogli

Graphically it looks decent and sort of looks like it’d have decent gameplay, but then again, so did Alone in the Dark.

i’ve got to admit, i was more excited when it more heavily ripped off twin peaks. trading the dancing man for two dancing men was rather transparent, but acceptable. trading the two dancing men for two angels? not such a great deal. i want a harry s. truman look-alike in my game. i want to start out at the bridge were ronette pulaski was found. there are still some nods, but they’re more vague like the girls whispering like laura to dale in the newly modified ‘red room’. i’ll buy the game at 20, but i feel that the twin peaks rip-offs were the game’s biggest selling points. i’m sad to see them go.
btw, the crusade for deleted scenes on the FWWM dvd continues.

  • Loving the price. May buy just to support this ballsy move.

    • Easy buy on the $20 alone. If it’s even half as good as some of the Simple 2000 games that use to come out, I’d be satisfied. It’d be great if the US just started dropping games like the Simple 2000 series. Fun, amusing games, at cheap price points that aren’t just downloads. I actually want this as a warm up to Heavy Rain and Alan Wake.

“At the moment we can only confirm what is available in the press release. In other words, it is only available on the Xbox 360.”

Oh lord. Timed exclusivity is so stupid.

  • I’ll be skipping out on this game. It doesn’t look that great. If it was more adventure then maybe, but when I saw the battle screen like the one above, I told my self no way am I getting this.
I’m not an FPS turd but I’m the kind of guy who wants a game like Silent Hill without the stupid battle systems.
