Final Fantasy XIII Cid And Hecatoncheir Say “Hi”

By Spencer . December 4, 2009 . 8:50pm

In Final Fantasy XIII, Cid isn’t an engineer or a portly headmaster. Cid Reins is a young looking soldier working with Sanctum, the government or the “enemies”. Unless he has a change of heart, Lightning and him are going to clash. Reins or “rain” vs. Lightning, get it?

And here are more screenshots of Hecatoncheir, Vanille’s poly-arm eidolon that transforms into a drivable mech.

  • I hope we don’t need to actually rely on the summons too much in battle.

    • JohnCasey1

You prolly will. Summons in this game are the equivalent of Limits, Overdrives, Desperation attacks, etc etc

    • ihatenoobs

why not? using summons is the best part of playing a FF game.

      • it is, but just like special attacks like when u are about to die or something, is boring to just start a fight, summon, and win

        • I often find summoning in normal battles to much of a hassle. You’ll probably be faster NOT summoning in random battles than when you do.

That, and I tend to forget I can summon.

  • JohnCasey1

Man. There are more numbers floating around in those screenshots than in tax season.

  • I wonder how long they can continue this name scheme. It’ll only be so long before we run out of weather/world-related words that are common. Maybe someone can be named Stratos…

    • JohnCasey1

They *already* ran out of ideas: Noctis, Snow, Hope, etc etc… That’s the bottom of the creative barrel right there.

  • Eddie

For some reason Vanille’s summon Hecatoncheir reminds me of Rikku’s Machina Maw Dress Sphere… Maybe because they both sit on it I guess…

    • I’m right there with you, it’s the first thing I thought of.

So that’s Cid! I couldn’t make it out in the trailer since he said his name together like shidorein.. too many girls, we need some cool looking guys too :)
Hecatoncheir reminds me of buddha w/ a 1000 arms.

I hope I get this before Christmas (don’t care what everybody says, this game looks good to me).. P-A should really update their preliminary cover art w/ the official ones, a little misleading you know..

  • When I first saw the TGS trailer, I would have bet money that Hope’s father was Cid in this game, he just had that “cid look” to him. Oh well, looks great.

  • Well hi to you too Cid XD ! I like it ! i do ! its a change in the ‘Cid Chara’ , Cid are usualy older guys ( wich i dont mind at all ) but here looks very cool !
O_O remembers Cid from FFunlimited XD ( he was a kid lol )

  • MisterNiwa

    Hi, Cid!

  • Woa so many screenshots and info already, we will beat the game before getting it

  • I actually like when Cid is a portly engineer, ideally with a beard… <3

  • vrakanox

Will square enix really make the coolest looking character non-playable? Tune in next time to find out.

  • Hours

I very much hope Cid is a playable characters. I really like his design a lot.

Six main playable characters seems a bit low for a Final Fantasy game, so I’m hoping to see more.

    • It’s been a while since we’ve had a playable Cid, hasn’t it? I have a feeling we’ll get to control him, though it might be a temporary thing. SE loves pulling that shenanigan.

  • Advent_Andaryu

Aside from all the Cid bashing, did you know that Hecatoncheir (also known as Hecatonchires in Greek mythology) is a “Hundred-handed” god that was even mightier than the Titans. Seriously, give Square Enix props for making awesome summons. All the metallic hands come together to make a freakin’ gatling gun! Machina Maw was awesome, but XIII gives you full control of a metal god.Why can’t the summons (Eidolons) play a story based role like in FF X? That would be perfect for the story….

  • wharcraff

Cid is always at his best when he is a Soldier for the enemy. Then he can give off that FF6 vibe of being bamboozled, and lead astray ;-). What this one needs though is a soul patch.

And that mech that Vanille also kinda give of that FF6 vibe as well from the Intro where your walking to the cavern in those bipedal monstrosities.
