Inside A Resonance of Fate Gunfight

By Spencer . December 4, 2009 . 1:03am

Sega shared new screenshots of Resonance of Fate’s t.A.B. battle system with Zephyr in the middle of a gunfight.

Moving plays two roles in combat. First, it moves your character out of harms way. That’s pretty obvious. You also have to run on fixed paths (called anchors) to charge up an invincible action. Complete the run to stock resonance. Get enough resonance and the anchor path forms a triangle around your party members, a trigger for a powerful resonance attack.

All of the running makes Resonance of Fate’s battle system… unique. I’ll be interesting to see how it works when the game comes out on January 28, 2010.

    Two comments here:

    1. Am I the only one who has no interest in this game, primarily because of the (IMHO) horrible character designs? They are just awful.

    2. Am I the only one who notices the odd similarity to the Shadow Hearts series, at least in terms of the graphics and whatnot. Ah if only we could be graced with a Shadow Hearts 4…

I’m trying to be cautiously optimistic. I’m not the biggest Tri-Ace fan, so it’s a bit hard. However, I do like the design of one of the characters, the one that’s probably the villain.Though we’ll likely never get another SH, something that saddens me greatly. I’d even like a Koudelka sequel, but with Sacnoth/Nautilus gone, it’s not happening.

    • I can see the similarities with SH as well. I’ll still play the game, despite the character design. Hell, I play the Elder Scroll games despite horrid character designs, and those games’ character designs look like the south end of a northbound horse!

      • Hey, I can’t leave comments on your blog. The preview frame cuts out the CAPTCHA textbox.

        • Thanks for the heads up, that layout’s been giving me grief, so I’ve swapped it out for the time being. Comments should work better now.

I don´t know the problem of the design, the gameplay looks cool in the trailers and well maybe Tri Ace do a better work with sega than they do with Square Enix.

    • they are not >8O

    Nice screenshots.
    It looks promising

  • Well hopefully while moving you can do those cool moves that we saw in the first TaB trailer

I’ll agree partially with the character designs. There’s one that looks good, the girl. The other two look kindof crappy. First off the one guy who has a ponytail has a girlish look to him and then the other guy in the red jacket looks like it could be a girl or guy, who knows.

Second. After finishing the first Shadow Hearts, thought it was a great game. On Shadow Hearts 2 I stopped shortly after starting it up it felt pretty boring. May give it a chance later on but I’ve got more games to play. Never picked up SH3 because didn’t beat or much like the second, plus the third one had terrible character designs.

  • I just don’t feel I’ve seen enough of the game to make a solid judgment on if it’s appealing to me if that makes sense.

  • God ive been wanting to get this game since the first battle scene i ever saw on a video… COME FAST!

if only wild arms took a direction similar to this i’ll be very happy with heavy steam punk influence~

I’m pretty excited for this, despite the fact that I’m not really a Tri-Ace fan.

    • The only tri-Ace game I feel is a triumph is the first Valkyrie Profile. Everything else has failed to really grab me… yet… I always look forward to their games. They’re bound to hit all the right notes sometime, maybe. I suppose. Perhaps.
