Nippon Ichi Adds Light Novel Character Cameos To Zettai Hero Kaizou Keikaku

By Spencer . December 29, 2009 . 10:20am

Disgaea cameos in a Nippon Ichi game? Expected. A partnership with light novel mag Dengeki Bunko to borrow Boogiepop from Boogiepop Phantom for a PSP dungeon RPG? Didn’t see that coming!

And that’s what Nippon Ichi pulled off for Zettai Hero Kaizou Keikaku. Their upcoming dungeon crawler includes various Dengeki Bunko character costumes. While the partnership isn’t as big as throwing Hatsune Miku in this game, Nippon Ichi is trying to broaden the audience for this new series. Actually, Nippon Ichi worked with Hatune Miku. She (it?) sang songs for Tori no Hoshi: Aerial Planet, a Japan-only gliding game for the PS2.

Here’s a summary of the Dengeki Bunko cameos in Zettai Hero Kaizou Keikaku.

Shana – Shakugan no Shana

Taiga Aisaka – Toradora!

Index – Toaru Majutsu no Index

Horo – Spice and Wolf

Dokuro-chan – Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-Chan

Boogiepop – Boogiepop Phantom

Yoko – Inukami!

  • Taiga and Horo in a NIS game? Sign me up.

  • shion16

  • nyoron

Now these are some cool cameos, let’s watch as they never make it out of Japan. I’ll probably cry about it (and then import).

  • malek86

I can’t wait for this game.

  • zhemos

Well this almost guarantees we’ll never see this game in america.

    • 311

Ya that could be a problem for a domestic release

    • LastFootnote

      How do you figure?

      • zhemos

Shakugan no Shana is licensed, Viz holds the manga/novel rights and Geneon holds the anime license. Horo from Spice and Wolf, funimation has rights to the anime, and Yen Plus has the manga/novel. Media Blasters has the rights to Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-Chan and I think Rightstuf has Boogiepop with Viz holding the manga license

NISA would have to pay these companies. It’s would be a licensing nightmare.

        • LastFootnote

Man, do rights always work in such an exclusive fashion? Can’t they just say, “OK, Viz, you have the rights to produce the manga in the US” while reserving the rights for the characters’ use in other works?

Hopefully the manga/anime companies will realize this is free publicity and cut NISA a deal.

          • zhemos

It would be cool, but It’s not going to happen. Otherwise Atlus would have probably brought over all the super robot taisen games ages ago.

        • nyoron

That may be the case but it wouldn’t necessarily kill the whole game. They could just cut the characters.

          • Code

rar, yeah that is what will likely happen, or possibly just replaced with other NIS characters for here, but they’ll likely just cut`em.

          • Pichi

It is possible that they’ll just rename them and take out any reference that they are related to another media to keep them all.

          • Well, I think Nintendo did that when they replaced Mike Tyson with Mr. Dream for Punch Out!. Maybe if they redesign the whole character, but then what’s the point, you know? I guess if you want to play as Boogiewoogiebowie.
Actually, that would be pretty funny, like the counterfeit toys you find at the flee markets.

  • 311

Yo! DO WE start to BEG NISA NOW for this game or Do WE give em our money first?!!! cuz I and many siliconera bloggers Do I KNOW IT

  • Hmmmmmmmm. Interesting cameos… should this game decide to make its way to the US, I would definitely support the idea of keeping them in the domestic release. I mean, they’re already there, right?

…Not that I see a Shana mousepad or Toradora stuff lying around…

    • nyoron

Well if it doesn’t work out and they have to be cut, at least leave them in the code so someone can create a “Hot Dengeki” mod.

    • LastFootnote

I sure hope this makes its way to the US. NIS is billing it as their next big franchise, after all. They’re hoping it’ll be as popular as Disgaea. It’d be a real shame for NISA to miss out on it.

    • I have a large Shakugan no Shana wallscroll staring at me all day long. Love that show, well the first season at least.

      • While I prefer the first season myself, after watching the second season again… it’s pretty darn good, too. A lot more character-centric and a huge buildup for the third season. I just hope the few OVAs we’ll get before that starts are a little less arbitrary than the first one released.

        • Moriken

The second season isn’t received as well because it arbitrarily changes parts of the original plot for no apparent reason…
Personally, I’m not a big fan of such changes in anime adaptions, for the sole reason that they’re always inferior to the original plot…(at least I can’t recall an exception, and well, after watching the current FMA adaption, for example, the first series kinda got degraded to a pile of crap…)

          • But when one has no frame of reference for the “superior” version, it is what it is and it’s good.

I never compare mediums, because they’re different means of entertainment. I want to see different styles of the same story, or plots branch in different ways based on a character’s decision. It’s more exciting that way… why would you want to read, watch, and play the exact, to the letter, same thing?

  • holyPaladin

    OMG Shana, Taiga, and Index!

    Note : Please bring Biribiri

  • ROOOFFFLlll haha, and there arent any males? i do have some male characters as well i would like to use, like touma, or i wish they could put gin from gintama, but that is too far i think

    • Well, I guess Boogiepop is theoretically a male…

  • M’iau M’iaut

But think of the poor ‘absolute’ Hero if he happens to have Shana, Taiga, Holo and Dokuro in the team and some little moe girl comes up and gives him a kiss….

He’ll get incinerated, beheaded by a spiked bat, torn to shreds and who the hell knows what else those four little demons could come up with.

  • eliel

lol random cameos but awesome non the less, R there any Game play vids up for this game yet?

  • This is one of those situations where I’ve seen the characters so many times and maybe even know their names, yet, have never seen or read anything about the series they appear in. Hmm…
Except for Boogiepop. I’m a huge fan of the light novels and series. Too bad we won’t be seeing her/him if this game crosses over the Pacific. No doubt she’ll have the coolest and deadliest moves.

  • punnyfuzz

Does anyone else here think that Dokoro-Chan would fit REALLY well in the Nippon Ichi universe, or is it just me?
