Final Fantasy XIII Xbox 360 Bundle Has Special Hard Drive

By Spencer . February 11, 2010 . 2:38pm

ff13scMicrosoft confirmed they will release a Final Fantasy XIII hardware bundle. The package contains an Xbox 360, two wireless controllers, exclusive avatar items, Final Fantasy XIII for Xbox 360, and a 250 GB hard drive with Final Fantasy XIII engraved on it.

The announcement emphasizes this will be the only Final Fantasy XIII hardware bundle outside of Japan (that should be all of Asia, Hong Kong and Korea got bundles) so you can forget about getting a pink Lightning PlayStation 3 in North America and Europe.

Square Enix character designer Tetsuya Nomura also made a special Xbox 360 faceplate which is said to be “very limited”. Select retailers across Europe, North America, Australia, and New Zealand will have it in fixed quantities, but the press release didn’t mention how fans can get it.

This is a really good deal and I don’t own a 360 so I might pick this up. I just don’t wanna end up with three copies of Final Fantasy…

    • Is it? ‘Cause I was thinking of finally getting the system next month myself. It seems to be the solid set up I’m looking for (got to love two controllers bundled with a FF game).

      • Eddie

Yea man I think its a good deal. A 360 elite will run you 299 and that comes with a 120gb 360, a controller and headset with some cables. Compare this to that, the controllers alone are 50 bucks a piece, and the game is 60 bucks. So yea i say pick it up man, especially if you don’t own a 360 (like me). Besides, everyone loves limited/special edition stuff! I heard via destructoid that it hits stores shelves march 9th too.

Oh man, FF engraved 250Gb HDD AND facebplate!!? This is like 10x better than the pink Lightning PS3, and more suitable for me than than MW2 bundle. I would jump on this excellent deal in a heartbeat if I don’t alrdy have 2 copies of the game and a 360 alrdy :(… If you’re like me and install every game on the system, 120Gb is not gonna cut it. I NEED the faceplate and the HDD, what to do….

I might just get this since my Jpn 360 could use a bigger HDD (right now it’s a 20gb). I wonder how “limited” though, would Amazon get the faceplate? I don’t want to get from Gamestop since I would need to pay 7% tax on $400. The bad thing is I would have like 3 “white” 360s, but they can always be distinguished by diff. faceplates.

          • I’m trying to find out more about the faceplate. It’s not clear if it comes with the console in “fixed numbers” (said in the release) or obtained another way.

          • Aoshi00

That would be great if you could find out. I hate it when pre-order bonus in not in a 1:1 ratio, it’s not the lottery you know, and people who actually “reserve” the game deserves that peace of mind knowing they WILL get it. Even if I’m getting this, I don’t think I would cancel my PS3 pre-order though, it’s just $36.99 for me at the end.

I have the Japanese ff13 because it came with the lightning ps3, I am gonna get it on ps3 because I prefer it on ps3 and also I need to play it in English. I might buy it for 360 because of the deal. Also I like the custom 360 but I have gotta say Aoshi the lightning one is better!!! Also as far as the faceplate this is all I have on the numbers. “Created by Square Enix designer Tetsuya Nomura, these plates are super limited in number. There are “only available promotionally in fixed quantities across select retailers in Europe, North America, Australia, and New Zealand.” Yea I know not much info…

          • Aoshi00

Thing I don’t like about special edition console is if you happen to not like the game or get tired of the design you’re stuck w/ it, but faceplates you can switch around, right now I’m perfectly happy w/ my Aya (Infinite Undiscovery) and “Zephie” 360s :) I would’ve liked it more if the pink lightning was a drawing by Nomura or Amano, I think that’s based on a CG lightning right? Ceramic white Slim looks sweet though. I just watched Major Nelson’s video, he said to pre-order the system now and info on how to get this “limited” special faceplate would be announced soon, doesn’t sound like everyone’s getting it…I hope that’s not the case, otherwise it would cost an arm and a leg from ebay scalpers..

        • The bundle comes out on March 9, that’s the same day FFXIII comes out.

  • superdry

The bundle is nice, but I find it odd that its FFXIII. I guess it’s a way to sell more systems and the game even if people don’t care for it since the bundle is a decent value.

I would like to get my hands on the faceplate though.

  • malek86

Why is the faceplate limited? Doesn’t make sense not to include it in all the bundles.

  • nyoron

So Square Enix just decided not to release a PS3 bundle, or Microsoft paid for exclusivity. I bet all the FFXIII commercials are going to have the 360 logo at the end, and some Best Buy workers going “the best way to play FFXIII is on the 360.”

    • malek86

Well, if people actually trust store employees, then they probably deserve to get scammed anyway.

      • nyoron

I agree with you there, although I was specifically referencing a Modern Warfare 2/Best Buy commercial that ran around Christmas. I just sometimes feel like, if you’re going to pretend your game is an exclusive why not just go all they way and do it?

    • MrMee

best way to play it is 360 imo (cuz that’s what I’ve got)

  • Nekobo

Tempting, but I’d rather play the PS3 version of the game. It’d be silly if I bought this bundle and then trade/sell the game away. :/

  • I’ve been considering a 2nd 360 (in the real chance that my current one eventually red rings). This might be the perfect one to get. Though, I do want to play FFXIII on my PS3… Oh well, 2 copies of the game works for me!

    • SinisterJoint

Well, as everyone else is stating the info on the faceplate is very limited atm. Ive been searching for hours. Some speculate that it will come with the bundle some say microsoft will sell it. However this is what I found — not sure if this X10 interview is solid but ….

“Confirming one rumor, Microsoft at its X10 event today added a new special edition Xbox 360 bundle. The Final Fantasy XIII Special Edition mates a white version of the Xbox 360 with a 250GB hard drive engraved with the Square Enix RPG’s logo along with a copy of the game itself, two wireless gamepads and exclusive downloadable items for the buyer’s Xbox Live avatar. It will cost $400 and ship on March 9th, at the same time as the game itself.

In a minor surprise, Microsoft also says it will sell FF13 faceplates for existing Xbox 360 owners. The design is created by Square character designer Tetsuya Nomura and will ship in limited numbers to shops in Australia, Europe, New Zealand and North America; its price hasn’t been revealed but should arrive along with the March 9th release.

No mention has been made of the Splinter Cell: Conviction bundle that was included with the otherwise accurate leak. If it still exists, the pack would include a black 250GB Elite, the stealth action game and two black controllers for the same price. It would ship on April 13th at the same time as the game; Microsoft confirmed Conviction’s ship date at X10 but not the hardware, which may only be announced later.”

I pre-ordered the bundle — it better damn well come with a faceplate or at least be made available to the people that buy the bundle first! =P
