At Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XIII shindig, invited guests took the microphone and said a few words before everyone toasted the game’s launch. Here’s what a representative from Microsoft had to say.

“It’s really an honor to celebrate the launch of Final Fantasy XIII on the Xbox 360. You know, Final Fantasy is one of the most beloved franchises in the history of games. Every generation brings innovations in music, movies, and storytelling,” Albert Penello, Senior Director of Global Marketing at Microsoft’s Xbox division, lavished. “Final Fantasy really revolutionized the RPG genre and every game pushes the boundary of cinematic entertainment. We would like to thank Square Enix for their amazing partnership to bring Final Fantasy XIII to the Xbox 360.”

“You know, tonight is a milestone on our platform, as well, to have this game on our platform,” Penello continued. “We look forward to a continuing partnership with Square to bring more amazing games to our platform. With that I would like to congratulate the team on an unbelievable new version in the Final Fantasy franchise.”

If you have both consoles the PS3 version is a no brainer, there is absolutely no benefit to buying the game on 360 unless thats the only console you have.

Or unless you only own a 1080i/p TV. PS3 has no video scaler chip and will down convert the 720p video to 480p instead of the Xbox 360 that does have a video scaler chip and will up convert the 720p video to 1080i/p. I’d rather have better looking gameplay than better looking cut-scenes.

*note: I’m not interested in Final Fantasy… this is just a technical detail that some people don’t understand when looking at “disc” specs compared to “system” specs… it’s all dependent on your personal setup! Buy the version that works for YOU!

wait what??? ………….. you are saying that the PS3 will convert the video to 480 P if you only have a 720p TV?
«« im confused …….. but i have a 1080P tv and FFXIII itself has an upscaler so my game runs at 1080 P …….
And i like both great looking game play and cutcenes ……. and thats what i have .

No. I’m saying if your TV does not do 720p, i.e. if you own a CRT or DLP HDTV you only have 480p or 1080i. Unless the game says on the back cover that it supports 1080i/p… which from all accounts of the comparisons online FF XIII only supports 720p… seeing the PS3 has no scaler… it downgrades to 480p. This happens with ALL PS3 games unless it specifically says 1080i/p on the back…

Dude are you crazy or something! The Xbox version is not even 720p!! And the PS3 doesn’t need to upscale or descale or whatever you say is been developed for this platform and obviously looks way better than the 360. I’ll bet anything you are a 360 fanboy. I own both consoles and I picked this game today on the PS3 as I picked Bayonetta on the 360. It just looks better than the port. And no it will not downgrade I bet It will look better on my Mom’s kitchen tv than on my 40” in 360.

Nevermind. You’re obviously not understanding what I’m trying to explain.

ok ….. XD …. still if japanese PS3 games have 1080P why do the european/US ones only have 720p «« ……….its wierd.
