Samurai Shodown Sen “Pretty Much Done” When Xseed Got It

By Spencer . April 2, 2010 . 3:35pm

imageSamurai Shodown Sen slipped into stores this week, a game which Xseed officially announced last month. How did Xseed get it into stores in a “flash”?

By the time Xseed got the Xbox 360 game, it was nearly complete. On Facebook, an Xseed Games staff member said, “Well, we didn’t localize Samurai Shodown Sen as much as help SNK Playmore bring it to market as the game was pretty much done by the time we got involved.” Ignition originally had the rights to Samurai Shodown Sen and planned to release it under the name Samurai Shodown: Edge of Destiny in 2009.

This tidbit came up when a fan asked Xseed if they would pick up The King of Fighters XIII. Xseed answered, “We would be honored to work on The King of Fighters XIII if given the chance, but the final decision is up to SNK Playmore. We’ll do our best.”

SNK Playmore have not announced plans to release The king of Fighters XIII on consoles at this time.

I think SNK has cash flow problems. They can probably pay salary, but probably can’t afford to pay to publish something (have the discs & manuals made, shipping, etc).

  • More than cash flow problems, I worry what SNK is doing to their staple IPs. Great game play cannot take a back seat to 3D graphics. Please do a PROPER Samurai Shodown next-gen game with the game play all of the fans love for over 10 years.

Thanks for supporting the series, XSeed. I hope SNK gives you a better game next time around!

I’m extremely interested on what is going on behind the scenes in this little spat between Ignition and XSEED.

Why is this on 360 and not my PS3!?

Um… this is not a loss for the PS3, trust me.

More than anything, I wish they’d get on with the age and ditch 2D. Tekken-style graphics + some extra flourish would work nicely for KOF.

But instead they stick with the overbearing labor of handdrawing their characters…thus, they get pretty 2D stuff with no real content.
