Rumor: Castlevania: Harmony Of Despair Is Multiplayer Castlevania For Xbox Live Arcade

By Spencer . April 30, 2010 . 3:52pm

imageAs soon as we dug up the Harmony of Despair trademark we knew it had to be for another Castlevania game. The surprise might be it’s a multiplayer game with a mishmash of Castlevania characters.

A “trusted source” told our Joystiq, the game supports six players with cooperative and versus play. Another post, which has since been pulled, from blog Never Know Tech claims this is a “Metroidvania” style game that reuses sprites from past Castlevania games – Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance games.

Characters like Alucard from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Soma Cruz from Castlvania: Dawn of Sorrow, and Shanoa from 2008’s Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia are said to be in the downloadable game.

It better not look like crap.
    And for Xbox?? Ugh

Is this “multiplayer” they speak of level creation? I’m still waiting for a Mega Man Powered Up version of Castlevania, minus the cute look.

  • Hraesvelgr

Oh goody, if this is true, that means we’ll get yet another game that is dumbed down for multiplayer.

Konami Exec “Holy crap, our 3d Castlevania fighting game didn’t do very well. What should we do?”

Konami Devs “I know! Lets make a fighting game… but 2d!”

Konami Exec “Wow, that is just… wow! I’ll green light this right away. This can’t possibly fail like last time”

    Justinzero “Yawn”

lol but you never know 2d seem to solve everything these days. As a castlevania fan it should be interesting if its like smash bros at least

It appears from screenshots that it’s not player VS player, at least not in the direct sense, but all players VS boss/castle. It could be completely co-op.

I don’t know, that sounds a bit weird. I’ll believe it when Konami spills the beans.

This sounds a bit stupid, but as an avid Castlevania fan I would like to try it. Though one has to wonder why only a XBL release? Not that it matters for me but I usually buy all my digital games over the PSN due to its more lax DRM policy.

If Final Fight is any indication, that might be changing soon.

      • kupomogli

Capcom is just one company. Just because one company uses a douchebag DRM doesn’t mean all companies are going to.

Capcom only did it because of Sony allowing people to share games between five PS3s on a single PSN account. Currently there are only five games that don’t allow game sharing. Tekken Dark Resurrection, GT5 Prologue, Socom, Final Fight, and Warhawk.

Yeah, but that is usually limited to first-party games. Hopefully it doesn’t mean anything, but still, I’d rather be cautious.

  • Hopefully this game will have an extensive Single Player mode that doesn’t rely on any Multiplayer, otherwise I am not interested… and seeing that Castlevania is one of my favorite series ever made (I own every single game on every single system, even spin-offs, except for the Haunted Castle Arcade board…) I’d really like to play it. However this whole tack on craptastic multiplayer stuff these days makes me sad.
