This Week In Sales: Hakuouki: Yuugi Roku

Coming out of Golden Week, sales for the week of May 10th – 16th dropped rather precipitously, as Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker clung to the top two spots for a third week in a row.

The only real notable release for the week was Hakuouki: Yuugi Roku, a new entry in one of Idea Factory’s otome series, which, unlike past games in the franchise, looks to be more of a minigame collection of sorts.

For reference, fan disc Hakuouki: Zuisouroku on PS2 moved 16,937 units in its opening week, while Hakuouki Portable, a remake of a PS2 game from 2008, seemingly sold less than Yuugi Roku. The next mainline game in the series, Hakuouki: Shinsengumi Kitan, is set to release on the PlayStation 3 in June.

I still don’t see the appeal of Peace Walker, is it the MH-like co-op? I mean, the control is the most cumbersome compared to the last 4 main games, mainly due to the lack of 2nd analog stick, the face btns is kind of a remedy, but still difficult to play, my hands have never cramped so fast playing a portable game.. also going up against a boss on your own is sooo hard, there’s no difficulty setting, you get hordes of soldiers swarming you while a tank is trying to blow you to pieces, all the while trying to wrestle w/ the camera and inventory and weapons real-time. I remember the boss fights in MGS used to be exciting and fun, but here I kept getting stuck for at least like an hour not to mention dying a dozen times, it’s not fun for me… and the Famitsu 40/40 is definitely a joke…I’ll have to say the Eng. version is going to be better though, the word ballons on the screen in the Jpn ver. make the cutscenes seem so clustered..Glad to see Nier Replicant is still constantly selling though.. and the SD Hakuouki is very cute :)
