Thank Natsume For Lufia: Curse Of The Sinistrals

By Spencer . May 25, 2010 . 8:12pm

Thank Natsume For Lufia: Curse Of The SinistralsEstpolis: The Lands Cursed by the Gods is coming to North America, but Square Enix isn’t handling it. Harvest Moon and Witch’s Wish publisher Natsume is. A fitting choice considering Natsume published Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals for the Super Nintendo. The Nintendo DS game is a remake of Rise of the Sinistrals.

In North America, Estpolis will be known as Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals. A Twitter post announced the title and says more information is coming soon. While you’re waiting check out this trailer from the Japanese version.

Thanks for the tip Volcynika!

    Thank you so much natsume.

Natsume? Oh God. Bland script imminent.

…Still, I guess it’s better than nothing. Or Ignition.

I personally liked the script for Lufia II.

And it wouldn’t be a NA Lufia without a good ‘ol “Frue”-like screw-up from Natsume. :p

I liked the script well enough at the time, but it’s been AGES since Natsume produced a particularly respectable one, if they ever have. Adventures to Go! seemed to confirm that even when they make the attempt to do anything other than a dry, by-the-numbers translation, it’s dull and ineffectual.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m thrilled we’re getting the game at all, but I’m none too psyched about the publisher. Natsume is welcome to prove me wrong here, to boot, but I’m not convinced it’ll come to that.

  • Ereek

    Oh? Interesting! Very interesting.

  • Pichi

I think they did alright with the other Lufia games they published, so looking forward to it.

  • speedstersonic

YAY! Favorite Lufia game. Sad though you only have one character out at a time though. :(

  • epy

Thank you Natsume for picking this one up. And you’ll get another thanks from me the day the game is out.

  • Zefiro Torna

Hella glad and surprised here. Was worried that the ol’ Natsume x Taito love fling might have been put out by the latter’s new parents.

Thanks to all the parties involved for making this happen. The game may be radically different from the SNES game, but I’ll give it a shot.

  • Kris

Wow. That’s awesome, hopefully the game is better than what I initially heard!

  • kupomogli

I’ll be picking this up. Red Dead Redemption, Phantasy Star Portable 2 US release, and many other games in my backlog, but also me being cheap, will have me wait until it’s $20 before picking it up.

Also the Japanese trailer in the other story doesn’t work any longer. Says it was removed.

I know we're going for the old vibe here… But I really would've preferred if they kept the main name as "Estopolis" instead of Lufia… Has a better ring to it.

Plus, this game's a departure. Even for a remake.

    • Joanna

I couldn’t agree more. I wish it was kept to Estopolis since it’s so drastically different from the other Lufia games, but I guess from a marketing point of view, this was a good decision.

I need to pick up Witch’s Wish still. xD

    • http://pto.yetikitn.com MelodyKitn

You’re my hero. I keep running into your posts reminding them to bring out RF3.

    • Zefiro Torna

Ack sorry, double post. The first click originally told me there was an error in posting.

    • Zefiro Torna

Rune Factory 3 is listed in the upcoming Nintendo Power, so perhaps this means someone is bringing it over…

As someone who adores Lufia II on the SNES, and someone who becomes physically ill when looking at anything regarding this “remake” (bastardization), thanks for nothing Natsume.
