Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes Of Light Drops “Square Enix Tax”

By Spencer . May 27, 2010 . 9:59am

imageSquare Enix typically charges $39.99 for their Nintendo DS fantasy epics. Chrono Trigger, The World Ends With You, and Final Fantasy IV, also developed by Matrix Software, launched at that price in North America

Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light won’t. When the storybook style RPG comes out on October 5 it will retail for $34.99.

October 5th is the other bit of news. Get out your calendar, that’s the North American release date.

Its definitely a good idea not sticking that $39.99 price point.

  • They got called out on it, and it’s cool how they respond this way. Now, they better give us some pre-orders, just to say, “sorry”.

    That font.. bleh.

See, even S-E knows the game’s targeting system is broken. I’d rather they fix that instead though.

  • Great! Now get Dragon Quest VI over here before I tan your hides, hm?

I’ll refrain from calling people names for paying an extra $5 for S-E games. I truly hate S-E but this game looks so damn good. I honestly can’t decide whether I should pick it up. I can easily put my S-E hate aside but those damn random battles…..

    • Maybe you know about all this stuff already, but…if you hate random battles, you’re probably not going to like some of the other deliberately regressive design decisions made in this game:

      – Limited inventory (15 slots per character, equipment & spells take up slots. No DQ-style bag with infinite slots.) Temporary characters take their inventory with them when leaving the party.
      – No “save anywhere” feature. Also, only one save slot.
      – Auto-targeting system for attacks and spells…which also applies to heal/buff spells on your party members.

But thank goodness for Amazon and their deals. Chances are we’ll see this for $30 there.

    well if it’s 34.99, then I guess I’ll be preordering this :)
